CATS Aquatic Team Lap Swim

Due to Tier 3 mitigations beginning in the state of Illinois on November 20, we cannot run organized swim team workouts at our facilities until further notice. Many pools throughout the state of Illinois are not in use during this time, including some facilities we have called home these past few months. There are many more details and items we will address with all D128 and CATS Members in the coming days, but this email pertains to what is immediately in front of us.

While we cannot have organized workouts for our swimmers, an activity that is permissible during Tier 3 mitigation is open/lap swimming. Our plan moving forward is to allow D128 High School Team Members (current LHS and VHHS Swim & Dive Team Members) and CATS Aquatic Team Members (who live in the D128 attendance area) to participate in open lap swimming.

HOW AM I ABLE TO LAP SWIM/OPEN DIVING?

You will sign-up through the CATS Aquatic Team web site beginning- Saturday, December 6 at 4:00pm. Sign-up will be first come, first serve. You will be able to sign up for one week at a time.  During this first block of sign-ups, you will be signing up for the week of December 7, 2020. Subsequent weeks sign-ups will open on Wednesdays at 4pm.

WHY LAP SWIMMING?

Lap swimming/open diving are the only aquatic fitness allowed during Tier 3 mitigations.

OPEN DIVING

Any time we are offering open lap swimming we will be offering open diving at Vernon Hills High School.  Boards will be limited to one (1) diver per board.

WHERE ARE WE HAVING LAP SWIM?

We will be offering lap swimming to our members this week at both Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LAP SWIMMING AND PRACTICE?

There are some important distinctions that need to be understood as we talk about lap swimming. The Illinois Department of Public Health and DCEO are only allowing one (1) swimmer per lane for lap swim. Families would need to reserve a lane and a specific time to lap swim. Reservations will be for one block of swimming time. This would not be run as a swim practice. Athletes would need to bring a workout with them. Coaches cannot give instruction or direction to the swimmers while in the water. A staff member of the CATS Aquatic Team will be on hand to monitor the pool and serve as a lifeguard only.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF

It is the expectation that parents drop their swimmers off no earlier than 5 minutes prior to their time.  Swimmers should have their suit on under their clothes, as locker rooms will not be available for changing before and after swimming.  Masks must be worn at all times while not in the water, we encourage swimmers to bring a zip lock bag to put a mask in while in the water.  Parents should be waiting in their car at the immediate conclusion of the swim block.

At VHHS swimmers will enter thru the main building entrance, have their temperature checked and access the pool through the pool deck doors in the foyer.   Swimmers will exit through the locker room hallway and out the main entrance of the building.

At LHS swimmers will enter thru the pool deck doors, have their temperature checked and then access the pool.  Swimmers will exit thru the pool hallway and out the pool foyer.

WHAT GROUPS CAN SIGN-UP FOR LAP SWIM?

At this time, we are going to begin with having members of the Vernon Hills Swim and Dive Teams, the Libertyville Swim and Dive Teams and CATS Aquatic Team Members.

HOW MUCH CAN I SWIM/DIVE?

We will be limiting how many sessions an athlete can swim, as there are only a given number of hours and lanes to choose from. Sign-up allotments are:

Once you register your account will need to be approved by a member of the CATS Aquatics Administration team.  Please understand this does take a few minutes, so if you have a particular time you want to sign up for, please get this sign up done immediately, you will only be able to sign up for your open swim slot once you have completed the registration below and then that registration has to be approved!

HOW DO I SIGN-UP?

You are going to sign-up for lap swimming just as you have signed up for a "Job Sign-up" in previous years for a hosted swim meet. To sign-up, be sure to be logged into your account. We have created an event for lap swim times for the week.

Click on the "Job Sign-up" link for this event. The button may already appear, but the actual "Sign-up" will not be active until 2:00pm on Saturday, December 9, 2020. Once in the event's job sign-up, follow the steps to sign-up for your session(s). Remember, this is first come, first serve.  The sign up for this week will close at Midnight on 12/10.  If we have remaining spots available we will re open up for additional sign ups. The week of 12/21 sign ups will open on 12/16 at 2pm!

Open Diving Vernon Hills High School (12/14-12/20)

Open Swim Vernon Hills High School (12/14-12/20)

CAN I SIGN-UP FOR MORE THAN I AM ALLOWED?

No, you cannot. We will be monitoring the sign-up closely. We will remove any sessions that are selected over your swimmer's allotted number.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS MY TIME OR DO NOT SHOW UP?

Certain times are limited and we are following a first come, first serve system in regards to sign-up. If a swimmer misses their lap swim time, without prior notification, they may be removed from the remainder of their lap swim sessions for the week.

I am sure I will have more information for all of you in the coming days, as this is evolving as we speak, and we are all trying something a bit new to get athletes into the water. Thank you as always for your continued support and patience as we navigate these uncharted waters together. GO CATS!!
