Tigers Excel On the National Triathlon Stage

This past weekend, FAST athletes competed on the national level – in triathlon. If you're not familiar with triathlons, when you take away the lane lines and put swimmers side-by-side, the competing, drafting, strategizing, and racing in open water becomes very different – and very exciting. Then, add in two additional disciplines - biking and running.

FAST athletes, Gillian Cridge and Emma Julien, headed to Clermont, Florida, for the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge at Lake Louisa State Park. Competing in her first ITU competition as a senior Elite, Gillian covered the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run course in 1:01:39 and finished in 9th place. "I am super excited," Gillian began as she recapped her experience. "I had a really strong swim and got out in the main chase pack... and we caught the front pack!" A top 10 finish in her first Elite race is quite an accomplishment! Gillian was the 2018 USA Triathlon Junior Elite national champion.

Emma raced in the Under 25 Elite Development series. On Saturday, Emma covered the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run course in 1:12:316 and finished in 37th places among the women competing (85th place overall). On Sunday, Emma raced again. This time, she covered the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 5-kilometer run course in 1:10:06 to finish 28th among the women (73rd overall).
