FOX Frequently Asked Questions

What is Fox?  Fox Valley Swimming  (“FOX”) is a competitive swim program serving residents of District 204 operating in Naperville and Aurora, Illinois, at Neuqua Valley High School and Waubonsie Valley High School.

Do I need to join USA Swimming? Yes, we are proud to be part of the national organization and require membership.

How do I register for Fox?  All registration is conducted through the Fox website.  Each season a registration packet is created with the main information for the season. The packet is found on the Fox main website page.  Registration dates, payment dates, and refund policies are all listed in the packet.

According to the seasonal registration packet, my swimmer requires an evaluation.  Do I have to register to come to evaluations? Yes, we need you to register before you come to the evaluation.

What happens at evaluations?  Swimmers will check-in, be given an evaluation card and brought to the pool deck.   8 and under swimmers will be asked to swim 20 yards of each stroke, older swimmers will have a warm-up set and then asked to swim a distance of each stroke.  They also will have the race start (dive) evaluated.   Parents can observe from the pool balcony.  Parents should refrain from communicating with your swimmer during the evaluation and parents are not allowed on deck during evaluations.

When do I receive my child’s evaluation results?  You will receive an email within 10 days notifying you the possible results can be

A.      Your swimmer has been placed in the (group you have registered for)

B.      The coaching staff recommends that your swimmer be placed in the Team Development Group.

C.      The coaching staff recommends that your swimmer continue with swim lessons.

What is Team Development Group (“TDG”)? TDG is designed for novice swimmers that are beyond swim lessons, but either are not ready for the regular team or cannot commit to the regular group practice schedule.  TDG practices three times per week, mostly in the small pool, and are eligible to compete in our home meets only.

Where do I find information on the practice groups?  A detailed summary of all practice groups can be found on the Fox website under “Team Info.”

What is dryland?  Dryland is training that takes place out of the water.  Activities vary by age group but can include, running, weight lifting, stretching, core muscle work, or games of kick ball. Swimmers should wear appropriate gym clothing on days they have dryland.

Where do I find out information for meets?  Meet information is located on the website under “Fox Events” and on the main page. Each meet will have a “meet packet” that the host meet provides.  The meet packet will list all the details for the meet.   Warm-up times are announced a few days before the meet and will be updated on the Events page.

How do I sign up for a meet?  All swimmers must commit to a meet on the website within the time specified.  Swimmers must log onto their account and click whether they will or will not attend the meet. If time standards are required, click on the events and if the time is in black, the swimmer is qualified for that event, and not if the time is in red.  Once the meet commitment window closes, Fox cannot guarantee that a swimmer can be entered if he/she failed to commit by the deadline.  Also, if a swimmer commits and then does not show for a meet, there are no reimbursements for the entry fees as the fees are non-reimbursable to Fox.  Registration usually closes 5-7 weeks before a meet.

What are “championship” meets?  Championship meets are end-of-season meets where swimmers must have earned a qualifying time.  Age group swimmers can qualify for Regionals and the Age Group Championships (“State”), and Senior swimmers can qualify for State, Zones and Nationals.  Time standards are listed on the Fox website under “Forms.”
