HSC Fall Classic Meet Highlights
The Hinsdale Swim Club Fall Classic was held on November 22-24, 2019 at Hinsdale Central High School. The other teams participating included Lakeshore Swim Club, Joliet Park District, Lemont Park District, Lifetime Swim Club and Lyons Aquatics.
HSC had 35 first place finishes. Gianna Cappello had three first place finishes in the Girls 13 and older group. Emerson Cassell had four first place finishes in the Girls 9-10 year old group and Xavier Sohovich had eight first placed finishes in the Boys 11-12 group.
In the 8 and Under age group, Molly Wideikis finished first in the 25 freestyle and improved her times in all six events. The group had 75 improved times including Mia Bayan, 6, dropping 14.04 seconds in the 50 backstroke, Ellie Ambooken, 8, dropping 11.57 seconds in the 50 freestyle, Eleanor Jeffords, 8, dropping 11.11 seconds in the 50 freestyle and Lauren Stokes, 8, dropping 10.17 seconds in her 50 freestyle. In addition, the 8 and Under girls hung on to win first place in the 100 freestyle relay with Ellie Ambooken, Victoria Blake, Molly Wideikis, and Anna Makstenieks. Great job 8 and Under swimmers!
In the 9-10 year old age group as mentioned above Emerson Cassell had four first placed finishes and Gabriel Pelinkovic had three first place finishes. The group had 145 improved times including Oyi Ukoha, 10, dropping 23.67 seconds in the 200 IM, Brayden Buchanan, 10, dropping 22.53 seconds in the 100 freestyle, Avinash Buchupalli, 10, dropping 21.21 seconds in the 200 freestyle, Molly Jessopp, 10, dropping 21.09 seconds in the 200 IM, and Avery Stanley, 10, dropping 19.98 seconds in the 100 IM. Way to go 9-10 year olds!
In the 11-12 age group as mentioned above Xavier Sohovich had eight first place finishes, Allie Joyce had two first place finishes, and Henry Guo and Brandon Suliga both had one first place finish. The group had 184 improved times including Harlan Apple, 12, dropping 37.53 seconds in the 500 freestyle, Allison El Difrawi, 12, dropping 25.88 seconds in the 100 IM, Xavier Sohovich, 12, dropping 14.20 seconds in the 500 freestyle, Tiffany Tu, 12, dropping 13.81 seconds in the 100 IM, and Caroline Shepherd, 11, dropping 13.32 seconds in the 100 breaststroke. Great job to the 11-12 year olds!
In the 13 and over age group as mentioned above Gianna Cappello had 3 first place finishes and 1 second place finish, Jack Kobus had two first placed finishes, Eleanor McMeen had two first place finishes, Nicholas Tommasone had two first place finishes, and Maura Fitzgerald, Kashif Carter, Jay Jensen, Lainey Devine, John McCarty, and Brooke Woolfe all had one first place finish. We witnessed several significant time drops in various events, starting with Gianna Cappello, 13, dropping 28.10 seconds in the 1000 freestyle. Madeline Gambla, 13, dropping 25.15 seconds in the 100 butterfly, Azra Ozgen, 14, dropping 22.45 seconds in the 200 butterfly, Parker Stanley, 13, dropping 19.25 seconds in the 100 backstroke, Edwin Weyer, 14, dropping 17.73 seconds in the 500 freestyle, Connor Groya, 15, dropping 15.30 seconds in the 200 IM, Kaitlyn Hu, 13, dropping 15.27 seconds in the 200 IM, Chloe Chang, 13, dropping 14.38 seconds in the 100 IM and Dmitriy Shvydkoy, 15, dropping 14 seconds in both the 100 freestyle and the 400 IM!
