Indy Meet Highlights
The Hinsdale Swim Club participated in the 37th Annual Circle City Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana January 24-26, 2020. Other participating teams included Atlantis Swimming (Michigan), Birmingham Blue Dolphins (Michigan), Springfield YMCA, Waukesha Express (Wisconsin), Fox Valley Swim Team, Mavericks Swim Club, Wheaton Swim Club, Hornet Swim Club, Lyons Aquatics, and Elmhurst Swim Team.
HSC took 2nd place overall at the meet and was the number one team from Illinois. Three HSC swimmers took high point awards, Gianna Cappello, 2nd place for 13-14 Girls; Nate Harris, 3rd place for 13-14 Boys; and Callahan Dunn, 2nd place for the Open Girls.
In the 10 and Under Group, Gabi Pelinkovic received 3rd place in the 200 freestyle, achieved Age Group State (AGS) Championship cuts in the 100 freestyle and the 50 backstroke, and dropped 9.48 seconds in the 200 IM. Gabi earned points in all 7 of his individual events. Jackson Schreiber achieved AGS cuts in the 100 backstroke and 50 butterfly. Jackson also earned points in 4 of the 7 individual events he swam. Sarah Pelinkovic achieved a Regional Championship cut in the 100 breaststroke and dropped 4.38 seconds. Thomas Chase achieved a Regional cut in the 50 yard breast, and Elyse DeCaigny achieved a Regional cut in the 100 yard freestyle. Way to go 10 and Under swimmers!
In the 11-12 Age Group, Luke Cakuls took 3rd place in the 50 backstroke. As Luke is aging up to 13-14 before the end of the season, it should be noted that he achieved 13-14 Regional cuts in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM and earned points in all 7 his individual events. Blake Abbott achieved AGS cuts in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. Blake also earned points in 4 of his 7 individual events and dropped 7.13 seconds in the 500 free. Siena Allegra achieved an AGS cut in the 200 IM and earned points in 5 of her 6 individual events. Alexandra (Allie) Joyce achieved AGS cuts in the 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, and 50 freestyle. Allie also earned points in all 6 of her individual events. Noah Pelinkovic achieved 13-14 Regional cuts in the 100 breast, 100 freestyle, 200 IM, and 500 freestyle. Like Luke, Noah is aging up to 13-14 before the end of the season. Noah earned points in 6 of his 7 individual events. Way to go 11-12 year olds!
In the 13-14 Age Group, Gianna Cappello took 2nd place overall in the 13-14 Girls High Point Race and took 1st place in the 200 freestyle. Cappello also achieved an AGS cut in the 50 freestyle. Nate Harris took 3rd place overall in the 13-14 Boys High Point Race and took 1st place in the 400 IM, and 3rd place in 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. Nate achieved AGS cuts in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, and 200 freestyle. Carrie Kramer took 1st place in the 200 breaststroke, and 2nd place in the 100 breaststroke and 400 IM. Carrie earned points in all 6 of her individual events. Henry Guo achieved AGS cuts in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Henry earned points in all 6 of his individual events. Olivia Suliga took 3rd place in the 50 freestyle.
In the Girl and Boy Open Group, Callahan Dunn took 2nd place overall in the Girls Open High Point race, taking 2nd place in the 100 butterfly, 200 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 400 IM. Taira Juronis took 3rd place in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. Tiffany Matulis took 2nd place in the 100 breaststroke. Megan Mitchell took 1st place in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. Luke Thorell took 3rd place in the 100 backstroke. Way to go HSC on all these top finishes!
