Matt Dorsch Head Coach - Gold/Senior Groups

Coach Matt started with IA in June 2012 coming from the Cleveland, Ohio area where he served as the head coach for the Twinsburg site of University Swim Club, assistant coach for the Twinsburg High School swim team and assistant coach for John Carroll University. In South Bend, he also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Notre Dame Men's Swim Team from 2013-2016.  

A native of Detroit, MI, Coach Matt attended John Carroll University from 2001-2005. While at JCU, Coach Matt was a 4 year varsity swimmer for the Blue Streaks, winning 9 individual conference titles, earning 27 All-Conference honors, and qualifying for he 2004 NCAA DIII Championships in the 200 Freestyle. Coach Matt Graduated with a BS in Physics in 2005 and then went on to earn an MS in Medical Physics from Cleveland State University in 2008, and then a secondary teaching certificate from CSU in 2009. Coach Matt taught physics at Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, OH from 2009-2012. he currently lives in Mishawaka with his wife, Deb, his two daughters, Elle and Hadley, and his Australian Shepherd, Brutus.

 

Ben Snader Head Age Group Coach - Silver Group

Coach Ben has been involved with age group compeitive swimming since he was seven years old and swam with the CATS Aquatics in Libertyville, IL.  In high school, Ben was a four year varsity member on the swim and water polo teams of Libertyville High School.  He was an IHSA state finalist in the 100 breast, USA Swimming Junior National Qualifier, and USA Swimming Scholastic All American.  He continued his passion for the sport as a four year varsity letterman on the Denison University Swimming and Diving team while receiving a BA in Physical Eduction.  Ben earned an All-American as a memer of Denison's 200 Medley Relay that placed third at the 2012 Division III NCAA Championships where Denison went on to win the national championship.  He was also a team captain senior year.

Prior to joining Irish Aquatics in Spring 2017 Ben coached for three years with Cats Aquatics (Libertyville, IL) and Knollwood Country Club (Lake Bluff, IL).  He has coached athletes of all ages, but particularly enjoys working with age age group swimmers and helping them develop their athletic coordination and a passion for the sport of swimming.  He is a certified USA Swimming Coach and is also certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Personal Trainer.  He currently holds a Level 2 ASCA coaching certification while working towards Level 3.  

Brian Heintzberger Assistant Coach - Gold/Senior Groups

Coach Brian began his coaching career in the Fall of 1999 as the boys assistant swim coach, in charge of diving at Mishawaka High School.  After his first year he took over the diving for the girls team as well.  He remained in that position for 12 years during which time he had many accolades including one girls sectional champion, ten diving regional qualifiers, four state qualifiers and three NIC conference champions.  In the Spring of 2011 he took over as the head swimming coach for the boys high school team and remained there until 2016 during which time he took many new swimmers to new heights including sectional finals.  

He became active with Irish Aquatics in 2013 when his son began swimming. He was a volunteer coach for IA beginning Spring 2014 and became assistant coach in May 2016.  He is certified as an ASCA Level 1 coach and is married to his lovely wife Lisa of 17 years.   

Tim Welsh Assistant Coach - Silver Group

Coach Tim is one of the most respected coaches in the nation.  Tim led the Notre Dame men's and women's swimming and diving program to 22 league titles during his 29 seasons as head coach.  His student-athletes earned 34 invitations to the NCAA championships, 12 All-American honors and won over 45 conference championship meets.  Prior to coming to Notre Dame in 1985, he spent eight years as the head men's and women's coach at John Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland.

Tim graduated magna cum laude from Providence College in 1966.  He went on to earn his master's degree in 1967 at the University of Virginia and taught English at Winthrop College (S.C.) and Syracuse.

His accolades are many and include Big East Coach of the Year on three occasions, the Richard E. Steadman Award, the Presidential Award from Notre Dame, ASCA's distinguished Ousley Service Award and the National Collegiate and Scholastic Swimming Trophy.

Tim has been a volunteer coach for IA since the Summer of 2017.  He is a master motivator and enjoys developing the foundation of the age group swimmer's technique.  He brings a wealth of knowlege and experience to the program and swimmers at Irish Aquatics.

Noelle Klockner Assistant Coach - Silver Group

Noelle is originally from New Jersey and started with Irish Aquatics in the fall of 2016. She found her way to South Bend because she is attending Notre Dame Law School. Noelle has been swimming competitively for the past 15 years and she swam Division I at The College of William & Mary. For the past 6 years, Noelle has coached summer league teams in New Jersey and Virginia as the Assistant Head Coach. Noelle is very excited to be a member of the Irish Aquatics team and hopes to aid the silver group in working hard and attaining best times! 

Tim Seitz Assistant Coach - Bronze Group

Coach Tim joined the IA coaching staff in the Fall of 2017 as head coach of the Bronze group.  Before coaching he swam for the Irish Aquatics and also his local high school.  After graduating Tim went on to further his career as a photographer and videographer in the Michiana area.   

Tim enjoys interacting with young swimmers to develop their technique and build the independence and confidence they need to succeed in and out of the pool.

Lisa Heintzberger Assistant Coach - Silver Group

Coach Lisa has been active with Irish Aquatics since 2013 when her son joined the team.  She joined the coaching staff in the Fall of 2016 as a coach in the Bronze group and now assists with the Silver group. Prior to coaching she swam for her local high school.  After school Lisa continued to be involved with swimming in various ways through volunteering.  Lisa is a graduate of Indiana University of South Bend with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administraion.  

Lisa enjoys watching her young swimmers develop their strokes, personalities and knowledge of the sport throughout the season.  She gets to know each swimmer on a personal level and enjoys the stories they tell.  Her goals are for her swimmers to learn and develop their swimming technique, build their self confidence and have fun.  Her motto with kids is to "Have Fun." Lisa is married to her high school sweetheart Coach Brian.  

Katie Lafferty Lead Coach - Bremen

Coach Katie started swimming at the age of five in Bremen, Indiana.  She joined Irish Aquatics in 2004 and swam with Irish until 2017.  Katie is an accomplished sprint freestyler recently setting a new team record in the 50 free at Division 1 St. Francis University where she competed for four years and recently graduated with a B.S. in Marketing and a B.S. in Management.

Katie began coaching at Irish Aquatics in April 2018 assisting with the Gold and Silver Groups.  She is also a lead instuctor for IA swim lessons teaching children ages 2 and up the developmental skills of swimming. Starting in fall of 2018, Katie took over as the lead coach of the Bremen site and will serve as the Head Coach for Bremen High School. She is a USA swimming certified coach working towards her lifeguard certification.  Her hobbies include writing and watching gymnastics.  

Katherine Fernander Coach - Green Group

Coach Katie started at Irish Aquatics in December 2017 working with our Green Group.  She started swimming competitively in first grade in Belgium and spent most of her age group club career with Pine RIchland Aquatics In Pennsylvania.  Katie holds a dual degree in Biological Sciences and Business from Univeristy of PIttsburgh where she swam for three years.  Her favorite event was the 200 Breast.

Katie joins IA with many years of expereience working with younger swimmers.  She coached pre-team on her club team throughout high school, taught swim lessions at University of Pittsburgh for the kids recreational program and worked summers at Nike Swim Camps at University of PIttsburgh as well.

Coach Katie enjoys skiing and is pursuing her medical degree.
