Christmas Season Message

Jason Kemp

Dear CIA Family,

It’s hard to believe December is here! As we approach the Christmas season, I came across a message from Coach Kate Davey she shared back in 2018 during a period when we were in search of a head coach. I’ve taken the liberty to update the accomplishments but the core of this message about our families is just as relevant today as it was then. I hope that you and your family have a safe and wonderful holiday season and we look forward to competing again in 2021!

Swimming is a sport that families typically invest a good portion of time and money. Like every business, CIA must make great business decisions. CIA is special, because it is literally run BY the families and FOR the families of CIA- FOR EVERY FAMILY.

Looking at the Urban Dictionary of the definition of family - A group of people… who genuinely love, trust, care about and look out for each other. REAL family is a bond that cannot be broken by any means.

When people ask me about Central Iowa Aquatics, the very first thing I tell them about? Our greatest asset - our families!! I am honored to coach with an amazing staff. I can’t believe how lucky I am to coach such terrific young people in any age group. But as a whole, we are a team comprising of THE best families!

During our current transition period, I am reminded once again of how we pull together as a team, as a family. Our parent board is doing an incredible job of helping with administration and spear heading the national search to find the next Head Coach deserving of serving our families. The coaching staff (who I can’t thank enough already!) have stepped up even more than their usual always going above and beyond. Families from every group have offered support and encouragement to the staff and board along the way. AMAZING!!

In the meantime, I would like to remind CIA of just how bright our future is!!

  • Back to back Silver Medal Club status - CIA has been ranked one of the top 100 clubs in the nation for two years in a row.
  • Back to back IASI short course and long course overall points champions
  • Back to back IASI Coaching staff of the Year awards
  • Steady club growth over the last three seasons
  • One of the IASI leaders as a Safe Sport recognized club
  • Swimmers each year that continue swimming at the college level
  • Over the past 10 years CIA has won at least one overall points championship in the senior and/or Age Group category with enough personal bests during that time to fill a book

At every level, every group, Central Iowa Aquatics is a team, a family, with a VERY bright future.

Congratulations CIA!!! Here’s to many more celebrations all together!!!

If you replace “transition period” with “pandemic” and “head coach search” with “places to swim” it’s the exact same. The message is as true today as it was more than two years ago. As we continue training at a high level during this pandemic and more opportunities open up over the coming months; we are very confident that when we do return to competition this club will continue the tradition. Thank you again to all our coaching staff, families and swimmers who make CIA special.
