CIA has been ranked as one of the top 10% of swim clubs in the nation! USA Swimming ranks CIA 245th out of 2800 clubs nationwide. The ranking is based on our Club Recognition Level 1 rating together with our swimmer performance (we had two Jr National level swims). USA Swimming News: Katharine Ross is ranked #1 in 100 yard Breaststroke for 16 year olds in swims after Sept 1, 2011! Katharine placed 10th at Junior Nationals in the 100 Breaststroke with a finals time of 1.01.77 which is a new best time for her! This was the 4th fastest time in the meet but because 8 girls had faster prelim times Katharine was edged out of the A finals, so could not place in the top 8. Larry Welp, longtime swimming official for CIA, retired on 12/31/2011. CIA will greatly miss his experience and wisdom! Larry is a graduate of Davenport West HS and UNI (Master’s Degree in German Literature and Linguistics). When not on deck, he works for Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield as an Enrollment Benefit Analyst. His family includes two daughters and one son, two of whom have been longtime CIA swimmers. An octet of Central Iowa Aquatics swimmers joined the likes of Olympians such as Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Dara Torres and Rebecca Soni at the USA Swimming Grand Prix Meet in Minneapolis. This was one of five Grand Prix events held this year in 50 meter pools around the country and the competition was staged at the University of Minnesota's natatorium over a three-day early November weekend. Central Iowa Aquatics swimmers put up some fast early season times at the annual DMSF fall invitational held recently at Valley High School. Those performances included some first places for a couple dozen CIA'ers. Lexi Horner, Berit Quass, Riya Chatterjee, Grant Fuhr, and Ed Lichinsky were all multiple individual winners.
