Swimmers should learn to differentiate between time goals (uncontrollable) and technical goals (controllable), and should have a plan for how they plan to achieve those goals. Goals are a training tool, not a measuring stick. Your goals are what get you to practice every day. They're what remind you to work hard, and do the right things, when you get tired....
