New Trier Aquatics (NTA) is a community based organization that develops athletes of all ages. The use of multiple levels allows specific instruction for each athlete during their time with the program. All movement between levels is based on a combination of skill and age progression and is solely at the discretion of the Head Coach

Bronze I

This is an introductory group. Swimmers in this group are able to swim a length of the pool freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers will be taught flip turns, forward dives, legal breaststroke kick, and the basics of butterfly. Swimmers in this group practice twice a week for 45 minutes.

Bronze II

Bronze II swimmers are able to swim 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke and have the basic skills of breaststroke and butterfly. Swimmers will continue their introduction to the sport, learning the basics of all four competitive strokes. Swimmers will be taught the skills and techniques necessary for legal breaststroke and butterfly, dives, and flip turns. Bronze II swimmers practice three times a week for 60 minutes.

Silver I

Swimmers in this group have mastered legal strokes, starts, and turns in all four competitive strokes. This remains an instructional group. Swimmers will complete drills and techniques to become more efficient and faster. Body position kicking and drills will be the dominant focus of the group. In addition, swimmers will attempt to extend proper technique over longer distances and/or at higher tempos.

Silver II

This group begins to introduce physical training to the technique focus of the team. In addition to the sense of accomplishment from mastering skills, swimmers will also be able to challenge themselves to physical tests. Developing kicking in various body positions, the use of flutter kick, hip driven fly kick and overall distance per stroke will be our focus. There will be a performance component to qualify for this group.

Gold I

Gold I swimmers are newer swimmers who may have other commitments or priorites that limit their ability to attend practice regularly. A lower intensity, skills-based regimen will allow Gold I swimmers to be involved at their own pace and achieve success as they define it.

Gold II

This is a transitional group adding more training elements to the technical foundation developed earlier in our program. Intervals and distances that challenge their ability to maintain technique over longer distances and at higher speeds will be a feature of Gold II. This group will train to compete in the 200’s of stroke, IM, and 500 freestyle. There will be a performance component to qualify for this group.

Gold III

Swimmers in Gold III will build a strong aerobic base as the foundation for their success. The group will challenge swimmers to employ good technique while improving their overall swimming and dryland fitness. Swimmers will train to compete in the 400 IM, 500 Free and 1000 free. There will be a performance component to qualify for this group.

Senior I

Senior I swimmers are newer and/or older swimmers who may have other commitments or priorites that limit their ability to attend practice regularly. A lower intensity, skills-based regimen will allow Gold I swimmers to be involved at their own pace and achieve success as they define it. This group is also a key step for swimmers not quite ready for a full senior high school program.

Senior II

Swimmers in this group will train to transition from state and local levels of competition to levels approaching their potential. This is a comprehensive training program focusing on competitive techniques, aerobic, and anaerobic development. Swimmers will be prepared to swim every event and distance offered in competitive swimming. There will be a performance component to qualify for this group.

Senior III

This is our highest performing group. Swimmers will be trained to compete at the highest levels of our sport and prepare for college swimming opportunities. Athletes will be expected to attend all practices and dryland sessions, exhibit leadership, and sportsmanship. This group is by invitation only.
