Our PAWW team shirt this short course season displays the words “ordinary to extraordinary”. I chose these words as a way to validate the hard work and dedication that not only our swimmers, but parents/volunteers put into this team. Our team exemplifies this idea in more ways than one and we are blessed to have each and everyone of you. You are all champions. We have 272 registered swimmers with PAWW this season. The benefits of swimming are endless and starting out as a 6 year old in our bronze...

Spooktacular is PAWW’s Annual Fall Meet. This year we had a HUGE turn out of PAWW swimmers and more importantly PAWW parent volunteers. We could not have had such a fun event without the support of parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends. Thank you to all who helped. Tonya Lodge came up with a great idea when sorting our Teams awards at the meet. We posted a list of PAWW swimmers by site who were participating. Our volunteers in awards were able to separate by site as they labeled awards. This...

PAWW attended the BNSC Rachel A Dean Memorial invite at the beginning of October. This was the first meet of our SCY season. We like to acknowledge our swimmers who attend meets. We will recognize first meet swimmers, 100 % best times, and New swimmers with first time Regional cuts. You only need one individual cut to make the Championship team, but may add additional cuts throughout the season. There may also be other highlights that a coach or parent has communicated to me that I may want to share....

PAWW would like to share an article from the Peoria Journal Star: Maggie Scherder seems as if she was born to swim. She was also born with Down syndrome. And one more thing: She is a world champion. “In the water, she is a natural, watching her stroke in the water, you would never know she has Down syndrome,” said her mother, Sheila Scherder. “Maggie started swimming at age 8 through Special Olympics, and by age 10 her qualifying times were so fast she was swimming with adults.” Scherder, 17,...

Maggie Scherder is a PAWW swimmer who also swims for the USA National Down Syndrome Swim Team. 2019 LCM Championship Team - Pause and Reflect As we announce our LCM Championship Team, I want to take a moment to pause and reflect on the hiring of Coach Mike at the start of our LCM/summer season. After getting to know Mike, I began thinking of ways to acknowledge his presence and the positive impact he is having on all our swimmers going into the championship season. I was drawn to the idea of the show - Jersey Shore. If you haven’t had a chance to talk with Mike...

This was the 3rd year that PAWW hosted a one day meet in April that supports our community. This year we chose the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).  “They provide a supportive place for families to stay while their child is receiving medical care, and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children.”  PAWW will be donating $1500 from the proceeds of our Swim For A Cause Meet to RMHC. To learn more or to donate go to rmhc-centralillinois.org  The meet was a new format with mixed...

We are proud to announce the hiring of Michael Stankiewicz as the new Head Coach of the Peoria Area Water Wizards (PAWW).  Mike will begin his tenure at PAWW in early May and comes to us from Scarlet Aquatics in New Jersey, where Mike has served as the Lead Age Group Coach since 2013. Scarlett Aquatics is consistently ranked as the #1 team in New Jersey and has been recently ranked as high as #7 in the United States.  Scarlet Aquatics finished as the 6th ranked team, this past weekend, at...

PAWW continues to be a progressive team and fierce competitor in the sport of year round competitive swimming in Central Illinois. Our season began with PAWW acquiring another local team, adding a third practice site, and wishing our long time head coach success with his new team. You may say the start of our season began with some “holding their breath”.  Holding your breath in swimming is a learning process. New swimmers must learn to hold their breath and dive in (put their head in the water). Not an easy...
