PAWW threw together a time trial, and got it sanctioned. 58 swimmers participating had 6 DQ’s 20 New swims and improved 69 of 125 swims for 55% best times. Due to the Governor’s mitigation, we had to cancel our planned swim meet for this weekend. We are grateful for the huge step up of our officials, volunteers and families to make this event happen. Derek Amerman was instrumental in getting our scoreboard to run correctly. Not sure how we got away with everyone parking out in the parking lot waiting...

PAWW held its first sanctioned intra-squad meet, our own Spooktacular. Around 100 swimmers, 166 New times, 414 swims, 273 Best times for 66% best times. 35 DQ’s which seems somewhat low for that number, with many of them being 1 hand touches and false starts or some other “silly” error. If we learn from our mistakes that number will reduce. Some of them were due to accepting the risk of trying something new, like the crossover backstroke to breaststroke IM turn. This turn is faster, but to make it right...

After each meet, or competition which has a sanction or in this case, the dry run for a sanctioned meet, we will have a meet report for you. We train to race, so it is important to understand that we celebrate achievements when we have them, and in some cases need to point out when we don’t get best times why that happens. Racing takes a courage to put it all on the line, and we feel this deserves our recognition and praise. Due to the current COVID situation, we...

Our PAWW team shirt this short course season displays the words “ordinary to extraordinary”. I chose these words as a way to validate the hard work and dedication that not only our swimmers, but parents/volunteers put into this team. Our team exemplifies this idea in more ways than one and we are blessed to have each and everyone of you. You are all champions. We have 272 registered swimmers with PAWW this season. The benefits of swimming are endless and starting out as a 6 year old in our bronze...

Spooktacular is PAWW’s Annual Fall Meet. This year we had a HUGE turn out of PAWW swimmers and more importantly PAWW parent volunteers. We could not have had such a fun event without the support of parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends. Thank you to all who helped. Tonya Lodge came up with a great idea when sorting our Teams awards at the meet. We posted a list of PAWW swimmers by site who were participating. Our volunteers in awards were able to separate by site as they labeled awards. This...

PAWW attended the BNSC Rachel A Dean Memorial invite at the beginning of October. This was the first meet of our SCY season. We like to acknowledge our swimmers who attend meets. We will recognize first meet swimmers, 100 % best times, and New swimmers with first time Regional cuts. You only need one individual cut to make the Championship team, but may add additional cuts throughout the season. There may also be other highlights that a coach or parent has communicated to me that I may want to share....

PAWW would like to share an article from the Peoria Journal Star: Maggie Scherder seems as if she was born to swim. She was also born with Down syndrome. And one more thing: She is a world champion. “In the water, she is a natural, watching her stroke in the water, you would never know she has Down syndrome,” said her mother, Sheila Scherder. “Maggie started swimming at age 8 through Special Olympics, and by age 10 her qualifying times were so fast she was swimming with adults.” Scherder, 17,...

2019 LCM Championship Team - Pause and Reflect As we announce our LCM Championship Team, I want to take a moment to pause and reflect on the hiring of Coach Mike at the start of our LCM/summer season. After getting to know Mike, I began thinking of ways to acknowledge his presence and the positive impact he is having on all our swimmers going into the championship season. I was drawn to the idea of the show - Jersey Shore. If you haven’t had a chance to talk with Mike...
