Sea Dogs

Group Expectations

The Sea Dogs practice group is the age group advanced, high-performance group for athletes aged 11-13. In this group, athletes should have a high level of commitment, personal ownership, and self-discipline. Be prepared for a high level of challenge each day.

Athletes in this group will attain Divisionals time standards and should be actively working towards Age Group State qualifying standards. Sea Dogs is designed to prepare athletes for the Bluefins practice group, while also preparing them for a high level of success at Divisionals and Age Group State. Athletes who are not prepared to meet the standards listed below should remain in Lionfish Gold until they are ready.

Group Standards

For athletes to be prepared for Sea Dogs, they must be able to perform the following abilities and achievements:

  • 70% or higher attendance in Sharks or Lionfish Gold
  • 11-12 IMX Score, or 13-14 IMR Score
  • 500 Free (SCY) faster than 7:45, or 400 Free (LCM) faster than 7:15 in competition
  • 200 IM (SCY) faster than 3:15, or LCM faster than 3:45 in competition
  • Complete ability to read clock, understand intervals, and read a workout without help

Required Equipment

All Sea Dogs athletes are expected to come to practice prepared each day with the following:

  • t-shirt, shorts, socks, and athletic shoes for dryland
  • swimsuit
  • swim cap (girls mandatory, boys optional)
  • mesh bag
  • kickboard
  • fins
  • pull buoy
  • snorkel
  • hand paddles
  • water bottle

All equipment is available at Elsmore Swim Shop.

Please be prepared with clothing for dryland (t-shirt, shorts, athletic shoes) each day, even when dryland is not listed on the schedule. Crocs, flip flops, slides, etc. are not acceptable for dryland.

Always bring a water bottle. It is recommended that each athlete also has a backup suit, goggles, and swim cap. Team caps are available at the pool for $10 (charged to your account - no cash necessary).

Meet Signup

Meets and events can be registered for under the Meets page. Please do not sign up for any events, you may put requests in the Notes section. Coaches will be developing event lineups with athletes at practice.


Parents in the Sea Dogs practice group will receive a weekly newsletter on Sunday/Monday with the weekly schedule, any relevant announcements for the week, and action items like meet signup deadlines or volunteer needs.
