Incoming Freshman

I want to take a few moments to detail what happens for upcoming 9th graders.

  • April & May- Experience tells us that due to school dismisal times and schedule challenges, most incoming freshman will stay attend Junior practices in April and May. That said, if and only if you can make the beginning of senior practice, you are welcome to attend up to 4 senior workouts in April and May.
  • June - all incoming freshman attend ONLY Senior workouts
  • Moratorium week -- starting with IHSAA Moratorim week the first week of July, swimmers attend the practice group that corresponds to their championship team roster. In other words if you are 14 for Age Group State, you attend Junior practices. If you are 15 for Senior State, you attend Senior practices.
  • Reminder, tonight is the mandatory HSE Athletic Orientation Meeting at 6:30PM in the LGI Classroom (old pool). One parent and swimmer from each family should also plan on attending the HS swimming specific meeting in the Lane Line Cafe proceeding the Orientation meeting, starting at 5:30PM. This should of course supercede your attendance at practice tonight and should be considered of high priority.

SSC Spring Tryout Dates

Tech Suit Discussion

In the last few weeks I've had more than a handful of parents and swimmers ask about the upcoming rule changes regarding the use of Technical Suits. The best summary of the new rule is that all technical suits (aka Championship suits, body suits, Speedo Premium Racing Suits, etc, etc...... the expensive ones) will be banned for 12 & unders unless competing at Junior Nationals, which is an extremely lofty performance level. This does not go into effect until September of 2020, so there's no real need to change your approach on these for at least another season. We also anticipate some more clarification of the matter by USA Swimming as well as a new line of championship suits to be released that will be legal under the rules. Stay tuned!

Thanks & GO SSC
