Lionfish Silver: Week 13

Blake Brewer

WELCOME!

Hi All! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break!  We had a great weekend at the Thanksgiving Supersplash from the times I saw come in! I am so proud of everyone who competed this weekend! We will be having an abbreviated week this week due to a Home High School Meet! I encourage you to come out and support our Royals on Thursday at the Home Meet against Franklin Central! There should be some awesome and fast swimming that night! I still have yet to receive many of the athletes Goal Sheets, please make sure I have those in hand by the end of this week so we can begin really working towards their specified goals.

  • As a reminder I want a Goal Sheet filled out and returned to me from each Lionfish Silver athlete. It is linked HERE . Please have your athlete fill it out and bring it in by practice on Thursday! We will be going over/focusing our next month on the goals on their sheets! I am attaching the Indiana Swimming Time Standards HERE to help with goals! We are in the Short Course Yards (SCY) season currently.
  • I am having an increasing amount of kids come in with non dry land attire on for dry land days. Please make sure they are wearing the appropriate attire on these days or they will have to sit out. Please be sure to check the WEEKLY SCHEDULE for these days.

Date Reminders:

  • Champion Parenting: RSVP HERE

Other Reminders:

  • Winter Season: As we are tansitioning into winter season AKA Cold and Flu season we do ask that if your athlete isn't feeling well (fever, nagging cough, has vomited at school/home, etc.) please keep them home until the symptoms are gone for 24 + hours. We also want to remind you that the athletes are getting out of a cold pool and heading out into cold weather so you may want to remind them to start to bundle up!
  • Volunteering: ALL parents for Lionfish Silver is 9 regular shifts (any of our HOME swim meets that are not Super Splashes) + 2 mandatory Age Group State shifts for a total of 11 shifts.
  • Dryland: Happens at the beginning of the practices on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Please make sure we are wearing the correct items for dry land. These include:
    • Dryland Attire
      • Shorts or sweat pants
      • T-shirt (preferably a team shirt)
      • Tennis shoes - This is a big one! Please make sure you do not send your child in flip flops or wheelie shoes - we do a fair amount of running and these are not ideal for this. - anyone wearing flip flops will be asked to sit out of dryland for safety reasons
  • Swim Practice: Moving forward I would like to start using kickboards, fins and snorkels. Please plan to have these at every practice from now on. You can get these items at Elsmore swim shop. Please get the following types of items so your athlete has the correct things they need for practice. These are examples! ~ Once you get your gear PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME on your gear! I suggest getting a mesh bag as well so they can hang them on hooks at the pool.

Seasonal Teamwork

  • Weekly/Bi-weekly team foundations/ideals (i.e. slow down and think things through, the power of positivity, etc.)
    • These foundations we will touch on each week and then go back through as needed
    • Week 1-2: "Slow down think things through"
    • Week 3-4: "The power of positivity"
    • Week 5-6: " Help each other out"
    • Week 7-8: " Don't sweat the small stuff"
    • Week 9-10: "Begin with the end in mind"
    • Week 11-13: "It's only a game! Games should be fun!"
  • Royal Roars
    • This is a moment after practice for us to shout out positive and good things teammates saw in their other teammates - they were a little skint this week but I believe as we move forward they will get better at this!

REMINDER: IF you are a NEW swimmer to the team I MUST have a copy of your athlete's birth certificate or passport sent to me before the first practice! Thanks!

Lionfish Silver Practice Guidelines:

  1. Do your best to arrive 10 minutes prior to practice with a mask on (and stays on until athletes go down to their lanes)
  2. Come with a great attitude and your gear!
  3.  Please do your best to be timely for pick up time after practices
  4. Pick Up location is outside Door 10 - the main Athletic Doors (this is the ONLY pick up/drop off location)

Our first couple of weeks will be focused on being great team mates, understanding our team values and building back up our basics after a couple of weeks off. I will always have the Weekly Schedule in our emails, but these could be subject to change based on what I see the athletes need. If you lose the weekly email don't hesitate to ask and I will re-send it to you!

GROUP EQUIPMENT

  • The main pieces of equipment that the Lionfish Silver need by no later than SEPT, is fins and Kickboard! You can buy these at  Elsmore Swim Shop .
  • The following is what I prefer them to have (doesn't have to be this brand but the ones that are for taking to the beach and have all the characters on them is not what we want to really work on kicking).
  • PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME ON YOUR KICKBOARD IN SHARPIE

Many of you will ask about paddles...yes these will be needed but not until November...I will follow up in another email about these.

HSE FACILITY

Our athletes have done a great job this year making adjustments to different facility guidelines. All athletes must enter through Door 10 (the main athletic entrance) and come in through the main pool entrance. Coaches will take temperatures at the end of that hallway. You will not be allowed to enter the building without a mask. No exceptions.

Athletes will exit the pool area through Lane Line Cafe. All pickup will be in the main athletic lot. No Lionfish Silver will be allowed to enter or exit through the doors on the north side of the pool.

Lionfish athletes will organize before practice in the stands in the middle of the two pool. Click the link below for more detailed info.
