Lionfish Silver: Summer Week 11

Blake Brewer

WELCOME!

Hi All! Hope you had a great weekend! We are back to our normal schedule this week with practices, please make sure on the days it says dryland your kids are wearing tennis shoes NOT flip flops, crocs or wheelies. Yes, I do know it is hot and it is summer but I also don't want them tripping and hurting themselves. This week we will be doing a lot of combining with Lionfish Gold due to Coach Danny being out on our team Senior Trip!

Reminder of what our Lionfish Silver group Goals are for the summer:

Short Term:

  • Come to practice 80% or more of the time (means at least 3 times)
  • Do ALL your turns
  • Work on starts/turns (starts - trusting your hands! , turns - positioning)
  • TIGHT and STRONG steamline
  • Kicking through our stroke
  • Pushing off of every wall in streamline and kicking underwater dolphin kicks (2-3 per wall)

Long Term:

  • Make the Divisional Team
  • Listening
  • Get 2 seconds faster
  • Make the State Team
  • Be more respectful
  • Put in 100% effort (whatever version of 100% is you can give that day!)
  • Move up to Gold

REMINDERS

  • If you do not have it by now PLEASE get your athlete a snorkel (like the one pictured below) ASAP! We will be using these a lot this month and moving forward!

MISCELLANEOUS REMINDERS

  • Dryland
    • Happens at the beginning of the practices on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Please make sure we are wearing the correct items for dry land. These include:
      • Dryland Attire
        • Shorts or sweat pants
        • T-shirt (preferably a team shirt)
        • Tennis shoes - This is a big one! Please make sure you do not send your child in flip flops or wheelie shoes - we do a fair amount of running and these are not ideal for this. - anyone wearing flip flops will be asked to sit out of dryland for safety reasons
  • Swim Practice
    • I would like to start the season using kickboards, fins and snorkels. Please plan to have these at every practice. You can get these items at Elsmore swim shop. Please get the following types of items so your athlete has the correct things they need for practice. These are examples! ~ Once you get your gear PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME on your gear! I suggest getting a mesh bag as well so they can hang them on hooks at the pool.

REMINDER: IF you are a NEW swimmer to the team Erin Fisher, the Business Manager, MUST have a copy of your athlete's birth certificate or passport sent to her before the first practice! Thanks!

Lionfish Silver Practice Guidelines:

  1. Do your best to arrive 10 minutes prior to practice
  2. Come with a great attitude and your gear!
  3.  Please be timely for pick up time after practices
  4. Pick Up location is outside Door 10 - the main Athletic Doors (this is the ONLY pick up/drop off location)

Our first couple of weeks will be focused on being great team mates, understanding our team values and building back up our basics after a couple of weeks off. I will always have the Weekly Schedule in our emails, but these could be subject to change based on what I see the athletes need. If you lose the weekly email don't hesitate to ask and I will re-send it to you!

GROUP EQUIPMENT

  • The main pieces of equipment that the Lionfish Silver need by no later end of APRIL, is fins and Kickboard! You can buy these at  Elsmore Swim Shop .
  • The following is what I prefer them to have (doesn't have to be this brand but the ones that are for taking to the beach and have all the characters on them is not what we want to really work on kicking).
  • PLEASE WRITE YOUR NAME ON YOUR KICKBOARD IN SHARPIE

Many of you will ask about paddles...yes these will be needed but not until June...I will follow up in another email about these.

HSE FACILITY

Our athletes have done a great job this year making adjustments to different facility guidelines. All athletes must enter through Door 10 (the main athletic entrance) and come in through the main pool entrance. Coaches will take temperatures at the end of that hallway. You will not be allowed to enter the building without a mask. No exceptions.

Athletes will exit the pool area through Lane Line Cafe. All pickup will be in the main athletic lot. No Lionfish Silver will be allowed to enter or exit through the doors on the north side of the pool.

Lionfish athletes will organize before practice in the stands in the middle of the two pool. Click the link below for more detailed info.
