This week: no changes to the posted calendars, which means no practice Wednesday due to Halloween nor this Friday or Saturday due to our travel meet to Munster.

Next week: standard week with the exception no practice on Monday. The majority of staff and team will be returning after a long weekend at Munster. Also, we have something different planned for Saturday the 10th! More on that below!

No deadlines this week, however here is an update on our meet schedule deadlines.

Congratulations to our racers this past weekend at the Halloween Super Splash. We had SO MANY best times, particularly in the focus events for the day 500 free & 200 back.

Parent Meetings, Round 2
I’ll be hosting 2 different parent meetings next week on Wednesday, November 7.

  • A repeat of my Junior team parent meeting from last month 5:15 to 6pm. If you attended last month's meeting, no need to attend.
  • A website and team “how to” meeting from 6 to 6:45 geared more for our newer families. If you don’t feel comfortable navigating any of our website functions (meet sign up, calendar tracking, best time reports, etc), or feel a little behind on how our team works in general, this meeting is for you!

Munster Meet Prep

Last night at our Royal Monday practice, the classroom focus of the day was Away-Meet Preparation. In an effort to foster some independence and maturity, I'm NOT going to share that info here. However, parents, if you want to give your swimmers a little nudge, just remind them to follow up on the away-meet performance tips that the coaches shared with them! Hopefully that's enough to prompt some good planning and mindfulness! Otherwise, I'd suggest you review the information posted on the meet page here, including a newly added Estimated Timeline. Looks like great competition with enough time to enjoy competition and maybe even an outing to downtown Chicago.

Sign up Process Reminder

Heads up, this is a repeat from the past few weeks. I'm fielding an unusually high number of last minute event/session change requests,  mostly due to this error in the process....

Reminder on signing up for events online; please make sure to designate your days in the comment box unless you intend to commit to all days of any particular meet. If you leave the comment box empty, even if your event selection may hint otherwise, you will be committed to the maximum number of days of the meet.

Big Ten vs ACC Challenge

The Intermediate and Junior Group will be attending the Big Ten vs ACC Challenge on Saturday November 10th. The Big Ten vs ACC Challenge is a highlight All-Star type of competition hosted at Purdue University this year, featuring the very best USA Swimming and NCAA athletes, including SSC's own Joe Young!! Considering this is right in our "back yard" so to speak, we felt this was a really valuable opportunity for us.  We will not have practice at our regular scheduled training time. Instead the day will look like this:

  • Practice Noon to 1:30PM - even if you don't attend the rest of the day's activities, this is our only practice time for the day.
  • Load up on bus at 2PM, depart for Purdue University
  • Team Meal at Purdue Dining Hall around 3:30PM
  • Arrive at Purdue University Aquatic Center 4:30PM
  • Watch and Cheer for meet, 5 to 7PM
  • Estimated return time home to HSE is 8:30 to 9PM.
  • We'll have an online page set up on our website ASAP. Cost to attend is $25, includes meal, transportation, and admission.
  • Parents, while you are certainly welcome to attend the meet separately, the bus and meal portion of the event is for our athletes only.
  • We are really thrilled to offer this event for the day. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks & GO SSC!

Coach Matt
