Greetings Bluefin and Seadog Parents!

As you my have heard, there is a parent initiative to get a program going to provide breakfast for our Intermediate and Junior swimmers that attend morning practices on Tuesdays and Fridays this year. I wanted to take this opportunity to give you more info on this and let you know what you can expect, if you and your swimmer wish to participate.

First and foremost, please understand that this is an “on-the-go” breakfast, not a hot meal similar to what the high school swimmers have in the Lane Line Café.  Because our swimmers have to travel (by bus or car) to their respective schools, this breakfast will be some thing the kids can grab and take with them.

Second, what will be included each day?  There will be 3 items each day, and we will attempt to rotate items weekly to add variety.  Each swimmer will be provided:

  1. A drink:  either an orange juice, chocolate milk, or something similar
  2. A fruit:  this may be a banana, orange, bag of fresh fruits (grapes, etc.) or fruit cup
  3. A protein or pastry:  this can include either a bagel with choice of PB cup, cream cheese cup, or Nutella cup; a muffin;  yogurt; granola bar;  string cheese;  or something of that sort.

Third, how will this work?  In the most basic sense, this will be a Pay-to-Play program.  Please know this program is 100% voluntary!  But, for those that do wish to participate, we will ask that you contribute to the cost of supplying food, as well as assist in making it work.  Here’s what we are asking of you as we trial this from now until Christmas:

  • If you anticipate your swimmer going to 1 practice each week:  $30 fee (Sep – Dec)
  • If you anticipate your swimmer going to 2 practices each week:  $60 fee (Sep – Dec)
  • Each family will be asked to facilitate serving the breakfast 1 time

The “serving” piece:  more details on this to come… this might include compiling “bags” at home and simply handing them out.  Or, this might be setting up the items for swimmers to choose from at the pool that morning.  Also, I’m working on how best to collect the fee.  For now, I’m asking that you let me know if your swimmer is interested in participating.

Thanks for reading through to the end.  I know it is long, but want to get as much info out there as I can.  We are considering this in “trial mode” until Christmas.  Bear with us as we tweak to make it more beneficial to all!  Please let me know if you have questions or feedback!
