JT has been coaching swimming for 11 years, both as a USA Swimming Club Coach and currently as the Head Swimming and Diving Coach for St. Joseph's Academy in Cleveland.  He brings an enormous amount of energy and excitement to the pool deck.  JT's devotion to his swimmers is evident in his swimmers continued success and passion for the sport of swimming.

Betsy (Bare) Tietjen, Gills Coach: Coach Betsy started swimming at 3 years old and has been coaching
since 2001. She attended Hawken upper school and swam with Jerry Holtrey. Betsy has been coaching
the Mayfield Middle school team since 2012 (minus one year at Hawken middle school). She has also
been an assistant coach at Hawken Upper, has coached various age/ability groups at LESD 2001-19, and
came to GLSS in June 2019. She loves working with the young swimmers and teaching them about the
ins and outs of the sport. Fundamentally, coaching swimming is about making kids excited about the
sport, by keeping it fun as well as giving them the tools to master the basics.

Betsy also teaches ELA and Social Studies to 6 th grade girls at the Hebrew Academy. When Betsy is not
working, she lives in Mayfield Hts. with her 17 year old daughter, Mareike, 15 year old son, Conor, 8 year
old son, Freddie and husband Kurt. She reads a lot of history books, loves working out, travelling,
playing volleyball, camping, hiking and kayaking!
