Kraken Swimming USA Team - Summary Of Expenses

Below is a general list of expenses and fees that a family can expect to pay throughout the swimming season as a member of the Kraken USA Team. This list is not all inclusive but should help with budgeting for the year.  If you have any questions, please contact Patrick Goclano at 330-534-1921x5002.

All payments must be made electronically via the team website called Sportsengine "SE Payments". A credit card (Visa, Master Card or Discover) must be kept on file for monthly dues and meet registration fees. You may use a reloadable prepaid credit or debit card.

Registration Fee

A non-refundable deposit of $150 per swimmer is due at the time of registration. There will be an option for those who qualify for a free/reduced lunch at the child’s school for a discounted registration fee of $110.00 and a lower monthly fee. Please see the chart below for more details. Documentation is required in order to receive the discounted prices. Failing to bring that documentation by the first day of billing will result in a full price charge for that swim group.

Registration includes USA Swimming Registration fee, a Kraken USA Team t-shirt, and 2 latex swim caps customized with the swimmer's last name. Swim caps can be upgraded to silicone for an additional $20 at the time of registration.

A $10 multi-swimmer discount will be applied to each additional registration fee!

Monthly Dues

A monthly payment will be due on the 1st of each month. This fee will be charged to the credit card listed on your account. A $25 late fee will be assessed if payment cannot be processed by the 7th of the month.

* If you wish to remove your swimmer from the program you must come to the pool and fill out a 30 day notice by the 5th of the current month. Otherwise you will be billed for the following month. *

Service Hours

Kraken Swimming counts on its members to volunteer their time to promote unity and to enable the club to thrive by hosting successful events. Each family is required to complete a total of 12 service hours per swimming season.

Swim meets, fundraisers and other club events have specific jobs that will qualify for service hours. Jobs will be posted for each event on the team website and will be available for selection on a first come first serve basis. Some jobs may be restricted to individuals with specific training and/or qualifications, but there is plenty of work to go around.

A family may “buy out” of their service hour commitment for a total of $120 at the beginning of the USA Season. If this option is not selected at the time of registration, accounts with insufficient service hours as of March 1 will be charged at the rate of $15 per hour for their unfulfilled obligation. Accounts must be settled prior to the end of the year banquet.

Team Uniform and Swim Gear

Kraken Swimming has exclusive partnerships with Dolfin Swimwear and Aquatic Outfitters. Please shop at the link below when purchasing gear. At the beginning of the season, Aquatic Outfitters will be invited to the pool so that swimmers can try on and order their suits and gear for the season.

Each swimmer will be required to purchase a team suit before October 1st to be worn for swim meets during the 2019-2020 season.  Team suit prices will be approximately $50 for boys suits and $70 for girls suits. Order information will be sent via email as soon as it is available.

Each swimmer will receive a team t-shirt and 2 team swim caps prior to our first meet. Replacement swim caps are available throughout the season at $6 per latex cap and $15 per silicone cap.  These fees will be automatically added to your account when a swimmer needs an additional cap.

Practice Gear

Swimmers are required to wear competitive one piece swim suits. Absolutely no two piece swim suits or board shorts are permitted at practice or meets. Jammers are recommended for boys but the racer style is also an option. Practice suits are typically between $30-$70.

Competitive goggles are a must to help swimmers see under water and promote proper technique. Absolutely no diving masks will be permitted. Comptetitive goggles are typically priced between $10-$20.

Practice gear can be found at most sporting goods stores or online. Amazon, Aquatic Outfitters, and Swim Outlet have a wide selection of competitive swimming equipment.

Swim Meets

There is an additional charge for swim meets. The fees are set by the host team but will typically cost between $20-30 per swimmer based on the number of events for which s/he is registered. It is mandatory that all swimmers participate in home swim meets. Away meets are optional. There will be a $10 per swimmer surcharge added to their invoice to cover the coaches reimbursement.

Our away meets are typically held at Youngstown State University, Salem Community Center, or various different pools in the Cleveland, Akron, and Canton area. Meets are held on the weekends starting in October and ending in March. Parents are responsible for tranporting their swimmers to and from meets.

Kraken Swimming Banquet

Kraken Swimming will host a banquet at the end of the USA Swimming season. Participation is not required but is certainly encouraged to celebrate our swimmers hard work and successes. There is no charge for swimmers but there is a per person charge to cover the cost of food for all others who wish to attend. More information will be sent out towards the end of the season.

Kraken Swim-a-thon

The Swim-a-thon is one of the fundraisers for Kraken Swimming. This fundraiser is MANDATORY for all USA, high school, and middle school swimmers. Each swimmer must raise  a minimum of $100 in pledges and swim 200 pool lengths on the day of the Swim-a-thon. Swimmers that do not participate will be charged $100. Swimmers that raise less than $100 will be billed for the difference only.
