COVID-19 Resources

The intent of this page is to give our Iowa Swimming Members resources to help us all through the unprecedented times we are now living in.  It is not fully comprehensive nor is any of the information intended to overturn any regulations, recommendations and advice given by all entities including an Athlete's Member Club or Coach.

We will update with new information as received. Rather than sending out daily updates to clubs and coaches as new resources arrive, please check back frequently for any updates. Of course, any major developments will continue to be sent directly to clubs and coaches. Coaches, if you have an athlete or coach resource you are using that you would like to share with the Iowa Swimming community, please send the link or document to the IASI office, and we will post it.

Insurance waiver and Liability Release Templates for Clubs (5/27/20) USA Swimming is not making any recommendations for clubs to practice at this time, nor is USA Swimming in a position to provide specific legal advice for all jurisdictions regarding the use of waivers or disclaimer language.  Each jurisdiction requires different verbiage and applies different legal standards regarding legal acceptance.  USA Swimming continues to strive to provide guidance that increases the likelihood that any re-opening related activities are conducted in a safe and legally compliant manner. To summarize:

  • If the state/local jurisdiction is saying it is ok to practice, then such action is not specifically excluded under the insurance program.
  • If the state/local jurisdiction allows the use of waivers and/or disclaimer language to advise the participants of associated risks, then the club may consider using them with the recommendation to run by local legal counsel before implementation.

For your respective reference, USA Swimming is offering the below waiver templates with language that may be considered if permitted in your jurisdiction.  Any draft should first be reviewed by local counsel.

USA Swimming COVID19 Relief Program for Teams Grant - Application period closed

USA Swimming initially pledged a minimum of $1M in grants to support clubs and members within LSCs with the fewest resources, funded by the USA Swimming Foundation. Clubs will apply for grants directly to USA Swimming through its COVID-19 Relief Program for Teams. USA Swimming will coordinate a two-phased approach to applications:
  • Phase 1: immediate need to clubs in current financial peril
  • Phase 2: for clubs to prepare to re-open later this year and restart our sport at the local level
USA Swimming looks to LSCs to support its commitment to the sport of swimming by creating local grant funding for their local member clubs. The collective goal is to generate more than $5M in funding across 59 LSCs and provide grants to those clubs that successfully apply and are approved based on need.
