STARTER
TRAINING & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

❏ After at least 2 years/16 sessions as a certified Stroke & Turn Judge, attend a New England Swimming Clinic for New Starters. As clinics are scheduled, they can be found on the NE Swimming Officials webpage calendar. A recertification or advancement clinic must be taken at least every 3 years.

❏ Take, and pass the USA Swimming Starter certification test (open book) available on the USA Swimming online testing page. A recertification or advancement test must be taken at least every 3 years.

❏ Apprentice at the Starter position for a minimum of 8 sessions until demonstrated competency as a Starter. These sessions must be under the supervision of at least 2 different NE Swimming Meet Referees or 2 different mentors with at least 1 year in the position.

❏ Review the Professional Official: Starter document from www.usaswimming.org website - Officials > Officials Documents

❏ At least 2 different Meet Referees must recommend advancement for the certification to be processed.

❏ Have a Meet Referee(s) submit recommendation via an email to [email protected] to have your completed certification processed – there is no automatic prompt that you have completed requirements.

ADVANCING TO STARTER requires 2 years prior experience and 16 sessions as certified Stroke & Turn Judge

 

 

ADVANCING TO REFEREE requires 2 years prior experience as certified Starter and 16 sessions as Starter or Chief Judge

DECK REFEREE
TRAINING & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

❏ After at least 2 years / 16 sessions as a certified Starter, attend a New England Swimming Clinic for New Referees. As clinics are scheduled, they can be found on the NE Swimming Officials webpage calendar. A recertification clinic must be taken at least every 2 years.

❏ Take, and pass (within past 24 months) the USA Swimming Referee, Starter, Clerk of Course, Stroke & Turn/Timing and Administrative Referee certification tests (open book) available on the USA Swimming online testing page. Recertification tests must be taken at least every 3 years.

❏ Apprentice at the Referee position for a minimum of 10 sessions over at least 3 meets with at least 3 different Referees until demonstrating competency in the position.

❏ Review the Professional Official: Referee document from www.usaswimming.org website - Officials > Officials Documents

❏ 3 different Meet Referees must recommend advancement for the certification to be processed.

❏ Have a Meet Referee(s) submit recommendation via an email to [email protected] to have your completed certification processed – there is no automatic prompt that you have completed requirements.
