Nina Smith Developmental Swim Coach

Nina Smith is Colonial through and through. She has spent her life dedicated to the Colonial community as a student, swimmer, educator, coach, and mentor. Nina has played a role in the development of hundreds of Colonial swimmers over the past 40 years. Nina has returned to the pool deck to head up CCA’s developmental program – excited to teach the next generation of Colonial swimmers how to be a champion in and out of the pool.

She was the head coach at Ply-Mar Swim Club for 29 years – including a 10 year run of league championships, during which Ply-Mar did not lose a single competitive swim meet. For 15 winters, Nina was on the coaching deck leading Colonial swimmers to success in the SAL and is the only coach to lead a Colonial team to an SAL championship. Over the years, Nina has coached young swimmers who have gone on to be All-Americans and even an Olympian.

Nina’s success on the pool deck as a coach and an educator in the classroom can be traced back to her own success as a swimmer and student. Nina is a graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. She swam in the summers – for 12 summers – at Ply-Mar Swim Club – the club where she returned as a coach for 29 years and where her love of swimming began. She also swam for the preeminent area swim team, the Vesper Boat Club, where she was a member of an American record setting relay. After graduating from PW High School, Nina took her successes to West Chester University, where she was a member of the 1972 National Champion West Chester Women’s swim team. She has since been inducted into the West Chester University Athletic Hall of Fame and was recently inducted into the ECAC (Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference) Hall of Fame.

Nina has been instrumental in the lives of generations of Colonial residents and swimmers and is thrilled to be back coaching and instilling the same love she has for swimming in the young athletes of the Colonial community. It is no surprise that many of CCA’s own coaches and swim parents were trained and mentored by Nina. To say CCA is lucky to have Nina Smith would be an understatement.

Amy Alderfer Diving Coach

I started diving when I was 10 and initiated the diving team at my summer pool. I dove every summer until I graduated from high school and then joined the Villanova diving team for my freshman year. I continued coaching in the summer until my junior year of college. After I graduated, I moved to Florida and coached the Cocoa High School diving team for two years.  I coached for PWAC in 2014-2015 and have been coaching the summer diving team at Ply-Mar since 2014. I am currently a school counselor at Haverford High School and reside in Plymouth Meeting with my husband and our four children, Julian, Austin, Henri and Ann Marie.

Meredith Falatek Asst. Swim Coach

Meredith has been involved in the Colonial community swim programs since learning how to swim at Ply-Mar Swim Club, where CCA’s own Nina Smith coached her. Meredith swam at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School all 4 years, earning All League Honors and was team captain her senior year. She then took her talents to Lehigh University, where she was team captain and part of the only 2 Lehigh teams to win the Patriot League Championship. Following her graduation from Lehigh, Meredith was head coach at Wissahickon High School for 2 years and she continues to proudly teach at Wissahickon. CCA welcomes Meredith back to the pool where she learned to swim and she can now develop today's swimmers, including her own children, into the mentors of tomorrow.

Marguerite Coyle Developmental Swim Coach

How does a mother of five find time and energy to coach at CCA? You should ask Marguerite. Marguerite is a lifetime resident of Colonial and former swimmer and coach in the Colonial community. She loves swimming and loves the Colonial community. She learned how to swim - and the life lessons that swimming offers - at Ply-Mar Swim Club, where she was coached by CCA's own Nina Smith. Marguerite's biggest swimming highlight was when she held a Ply-Mar swim record for 15 years - a record that took an Olympic swimmer to break. After graduating from Old Dominion University, Marguerite returned home to the Colonial community as a swim coach. Over the past 14 years, Marguerite has been teaching her 5 children how to be champions in and out of the pool. CCA is thrilled to have Marguerite as a coach and watching her instill her love of the Colonial community and swimming in our swimmers.

Amy Acquivava-Bahr Asst. Swim Coach

Amy has been swimming in the Colonial community pools since she got out of diapers. She spent her summers at Plymouth Swim Club and was coached by CCA's own Nina Smith in the winters. Amy swam at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School where she received All League Honors all four years and was captain of the team her senior year. She continued her successful swimming career at King's College where she again received All League Honors. Amy's coaching career is widespread and focused on the Colonial community - coaching at Plymouth Swim Club, Whitemarsh Valley Country Club, and Plymouth Whitemarsh High School for 6 years. CCA is excited to have Amy back in her home pool and hopes to have her remain a part of the Colonial community swim program for years to come.
