Jersey Wahoos Water Polo

In 2017 the Jersey Wahoos Swim Club took notice of the growing popularity of “Water Polo” throughout the United States and launched a youth water polo program specifically designed for boys and girls {ages 8-14} with the assistance of the American Water Polo Association {AWP}.

During the program’s inaugural year our instructors and guest clinicians guided dozens of participants to learn the fundamental concepts, rules and skills for playing this team sport that has the excitement and qualities of soccer, hockey and basketball but it is played in a swimming pool.  The program was a big hit and in 2018 Jersey Wahoos proudly became South Jersey's FIRST aquatic club to have an age-group water polo team participate in the AWP’s Mainline League!

Jersey Wahoos recognizes that besides being a really fun and exciting sport, water polo can also compliment competitive swimmers by offering many opportunities and benefits, including:

  • Learning new swimming strokes and aquatic skills
  • Increasing fitness, strength & stamina
  • Building friendships while sharing the values of teamwork & sportsmanship
  • Training in a safe, respectful and positive environment

The 2019-2020 Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Program offers the following training opportunities for young athletes in the region:

1. Fall Session

Participants meet on Sundays from September through December.  Training includes and a Beginner Group for newcomers and an Experienced Group for athletes who have previously played water polo.

2.  Winter/Spring Competitive Water Polo Session

This runs from January through May and is specifically designed for the more experienced aquatic/water polo athletes who desire to play competitive water polo games in the AWP’s Mainline Water Polo League.  Jersey Wahoos generally has a “12 & Under” Co-Ed Water Polo Team and also a “14 & Under” Co-Ed Water Polo Team.  These teams practice twice a week, compete in multiple league games, and also gather for team building activities.
