Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Field Trip - 2/1/20

The Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Team enjoyed visiting Villanova University on 2/1/20 for a fun Team Building Session!!!!   

Our club’s young players watched an exciting varsity match between Villanova University and Salem University.  Besides enjoying the great action in the pool, the Wahoos players also had a blast talking with Villanova’s head coach Larry Sanders after the game!!!   

With the additional tips and inspiration from the field trip, the Wahoos players are really looking forward to the upcoming AWP Mainline League Water Polo season.

Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Award Winners


The club’s two Water Polo teams finished the spring season on Wednesday 5/8/19 with an awards ceremony at the Voorhees pool followed by a fun scrimmage session.  

Besides celebrating the U12 Team’s “6 & O” undefeated record and the U14 Team’s “3 & 3” record, the club also recognized several young players for outstanding individual performances this season.   Certificates of Achievement were awarded to the following athletes:

Jersey Wahoos U14 Water Polo Team Finishes On A High Note

On Sunday 5/5/19 the Jersey Wahoos U14 Water Polo Team completed the American Water Polo’s competitive Mainline League tournament season at Princeton University.


The Wahoos squad played its first game against Princeton’s excellent U14 “Tiger” team.  Even though the Tigers outscored Wahoos 14-11, the Wahoos team had its best performance of the season.   Four players tallied multiple goals including 4 goals by Charles Derivaux and 2 scores each by Jack Behm, Liam Broderick and Kaitlyn Fahy.


Wahoos second game was against the “Trojans” from Wissahickon, PA.  Wahoos performed even better in this game and tallied a come from behind 14-10 victory.  The team’s high scorers were Kaitlyn Fahy with 3 goals and Liam Broderick with 2 goals.  The team also had solid defensive performances by Kat Gagnon, Jack Behm, Colin Raue, and goalie Jack McGuckin.


Overall the Wahoos U14 Team ended up with a record of 3 wins and 3 losses in the AWP Mainline league.  This is a fantastic result considering the number of 11 & 12-year-old players on the Wahoos U14 team lineup.


Throughout the season the club’s young athletes represented Jersey Wahoos with dedication and class.  The “6 & O” undefeated record of the Wahoos U12 Team and the “3 & 3” record of the U14 Team have demonstrated that Jersey Wahoos can compete with the other Water Polo club’s from the Tri-State region.   Additionally, the feedback from the league & the other clubs has been very positive, and all have graciously welcomed Wahoos into the local “Water Polo Community”.  



Undefeated Season For The Jersey Wahoos U12 Water Polo Team!!!

Congratulations to the U12 Co-Ed Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Team for posting an undefeated 2019 AWP league record with six wins and no losses.

On 4/7/19 the U12 Team played its final two league games in Lansdale, PA.  The first game was against the Trojans from Ambler, PA.  The Wahoos Team recorded an impressive 18-13 win. The top scorers were Liam Broderick with 7, Audrey Derivaux with 3, and Jack Behm with 3 goals.

Wahoos next competed against the Spartans from Erdenheim, PA.  The Wahoos Team gave an outstanding effort with a big "come from behind" victory.  Jack Behm & Liam Broderick were the top scorers, each netting 5 goals.  Colin Raue also scored a season high 3 goals.

Way to go Wahoos!!!




U12 and U14 Teams Are Victorious

On 4/6/17 the Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Teams each played two AWP league games in Ambler, PA.  The Wahoos U12 Team outscored the Spartans 13-8 and recorded an impressive 16-8 win against Valhalla.  The U12 Team was led by co-captains Jack Behm and Liam Broderick who each scored 7 goals!!!  Dimitriy Lee also contributed with 4 outstanding goals.  The U12 Team remains undefeated with 4 wins this season.

The Wahoos U14 Co-Ed Team also tallied two wins with a 15-5 victory against Upper Dublin and a 12-4 win over Wilson.  Charles Derivaux scored 5 goals and co-captain Kaitlyn Fahy added a season best 4 goals.  The Team improvroved its record to an even 2 wins and 2 losses.




Team Building Field Trip

On 3/30/19 the Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Team traveled to Princeton University as part of our first "Team Building Field Trip".  Players and parents had a great time watching a very exciting college water polo game at the DeNunzio Pool as the # 18 ranked home team {Princeton Tigers} outscored the #16 ranked team {Wagner Seahawks} by the score of 11-10.  Our players learned a great deal watching this elite women's collegiate water polo game.  The field trip was a big success and we hope to repeat it again in the future.





2019 Competitive Season Begins

On Sunday 3/17/19 the Jersey Wahoos U12 and U14 Water Polo Teams competed in their first AWP tournament of the 2019 spring season at the North Penn High School in Lansdale, PA.


The Wahoos U12 Co-Ed Team played its first game against PV Valhalla and tallied an outstanding16-7 victory.  Wahoos second game was against North Penn.  Our players performed very well and came away with a 14-5 victory.


The U12 high scoring boy for Wahoos was Jack Behm with 6 goals and the U12 high scoring Wahoos girl was Ava Broderick with 4 goals. 


The Wahoos U14 Co-Ed Team competed against two very strong teams.  The first game was against the Brooklyn Hustle team from New York, which outscored the Wahoos squad 12-4.  The second game was played against the talented North Penn home team, which scored 17 goals compared to 8 goals by Wahoos.


The U14 high scoring boy for Wahoos was Charles Derivaux with 4 goals and the U14 high scoring Wahoos girls were Kat Gagnon, Stephanie Renouf, and Kaitlyn Fahy who each scored 1 goal.


Overall the Wahoos players gave a tremendous effort and performed well against several fine teams.   Our players demonstrated improved passing and positioning as the day progressed.  Additionally, our athletes represented Jersey Wahoos with pride and they had great fun playing the exciting team sport of water polo.

2nd Annual Water Polo Kickoff Clinic

The Jersey Wahoos Swim Club hosted our "2nd Annual Water Polo Kickoff Clinic" on 9/8/18 at our Voorhees, New Jersey location.

The young participants had a great time being trained by our special guest instructors, Villanova University Coach Dan Sharadin and several members of his collegiate water polo team.

We want to thank the Villanova team for its generosity along with our friends at American Water Polo {AWP} and KAP7 for their ongoing support of our water polo program.

Year One Water Polo Results

On 9/10/17 Jersey Wahoos launched its newest aquatic program with a successful Water Polo Kickoff Clinic.  Over the following 6 months young athletes between the ages of 8 and 14 trained each week to learn the fundamental concepts, rules, and skills necessary to play this exciting team sport.

The hard work paid off !!!   During the spring of 2018 Jersey Wahoos proudly became the Tri-County region's FIRST aquatic club to have an age-group water polo team participate in league play!!!   The club's young co-ed team competed in the American Water Polo Association's“Mainline League” and won 6 straight games to finish undefeated with a record of 6 wins and no losses.

Special Team Awards:

  • Outstanding Boy Player / Co-Captain:  Dov Schwartz {19 goals in 5 games}
  • Outstanding Girl Player:  Kat Gagnon {12 goals in 6 games}
  • Most Improved Player:  Ryan Eckard {10 goals in 6 games}

Rewarding Water Polo Road Trip

On 5/20/18 the Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Team traveled 2-hours away to Ridgewood, NJ where it competed against the large Bergen YWCA/YMCA Warriors Team.   The Wahoos squad continued its streak of excellent play and ended up with its sixth straight win of the season.

Congratulations to the Wahoos players & families for making the road trip a wonderful experience.

Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Team Has A Successful 2018 Spring Tournament Season


The Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Team competed in two American Water Polo Association tournaments during the month of April.   The team finished with a perfect four wins and no losses!   On 4/15 the Wahoos players outscored the Wilson and North Penn teams.  Then on 4/29 the team performed exceptionally against Navy-ACWP and Perk-Val.

A New Milestone For The Jersey Wahoos Swim Club






On 3/18/18 the Jersey Wahoos Water Polo Team played its first competitive water polo game against a team from Bergen County.  The young players performed exceptionally as a cohesive team and were VERY EXCITED about the positive outcome!!!    

The team is looking forward to playing more games over the next 3 months!

2017-2018 Fall & Winter Water Polo Update

The Fall Water Polo Session wrapped up on Sunday 12/10/17 with extensive skills training and an exciting scrimmage game. Over 20 young athletes participated in this session and they truly had a blast!

The Winter Water Polo Session began on January 7th, 2018 and our growing water polo group is working hard in preparation of the upcoming Spring Competitive Session.  

In fact, Jersey Wahoos is very proud to be South Jersey's FIRST aquatic club to have an age-group water polo team participating in league play!!!   The club's young co-ed team is scheduled to compete in the American Water Polo Association's Mainline League throughout the 2018 spring season.  

These are very exciting times for the Jersey Wahoos Swim Club and the entire aquatic community here in southern New Jersey.

On September 10th, Jersey Wahoos and the American Water Polo Association co-hosted JW's inaugural Water Polo Kickoff Clinic which introduced the fundamental concepts, rules, and skills necessary to play this aquatic team sport to 20 young athletes from the South Jersey region. Participants had a blast!

A special thanks to Dan Sharadin (Villanova Univ Men's Water Polo coach), Damon Newman (Villanova Univ Women's coach), Alex Stankevitch (NCAA Collegiate referee), and several members of the Villanova water polo team for helping to make this event a big success!
