As we go through the season it is important that everyone remember and follow NRG's policies for practice. They can be found in detail in the NRG Handbook, and we strongly encourage parents and athlete to read through them. Here are a couple of the important highlights that need to be addressed at present. 1. Athletes are expected to be at the pool ready to swim 15 min. prior to the start of their practice time. 2. Whose Swim Is It? Taking Ownership -- September 27, 2011 Feature by Michael J. Stott PHOENIX, Arizona, September 27. RYAN Lochte's world record smile and thrust fist in Shanghai upon winning the 200 meter IM (1:54.00) was a long time coming. "The genesis of such swims," says Chris Plumb, head coach at Carmel (Ind.) Swim Club "is the day a swimmer takes true ownership of his swimming." At age 27, Lochte has taken ownership for quite a while. For younger athletes with concerned parents it is a different story. In every classroom, on every team, in every music group, there are kids who seem to have it easy. They barely study and get As. They go easy in practice and yet still outperform in games. They don't practice much but manage to make the elite singing group every year. If your child is blessed with an ability or skill or intelligence that comes easy, I am glad for you. It is a joy to watch those children play and perform and succeed. It is truly a beautiful thing. But...

Congratulation to Blase Szyzsko for making the 2012 US Olympic Trials in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:20.72 at Middle Atlantic Long Course Senior Championships held at Bucknell University. Blase is not the first Trials qualifier for NRG Swimming, but he is the first under current head coach Raymond Keown. NRG will be putting together a ticket package for anyone wishing...

Coaches loved Fran Crippen for quite a number of reasons. He was always on time, almost always in a good mood. He was vocal, he was motivating, he was enthusiastic. He was attentive and responded exceptionally well to a challenge. But perhaps the most remarkable thing about Fran was not just his willingness to suffer but an actual desire to do so. He bought into the benefits of suffering. He thought there was something inherently good in punishing parts of his body that most mortals don’t know exist. Tough didn’t...

Championship Frame of Mind During Distance Sets -- April 26, 2011 Guest column by Chloe Sutton MISSION VIEJO, California, April 26. MISSION Viejo has been known for its distance swimmers and challenging practices. With coaches like Bill Rose and Mark Schubert, the Nadadores have created some workouts that would make most people exhausted just by looking at them. Since I am a part of this program, I am tested day-in and day-out with these grueling training sessions and after I finish, the number 1 question I get is: "What do...

On Sunday, April 3rd, 2011, NRG's age group swimmers were able to do something that has not been achieved in most of thier own lifetimes- win The Cup races against Jersey Wahoos. NRG had not won The Cup since 1999, and now it will leave Mt. Laurel and come back to Pennsylvania. 12 total cups were available to win, with many, many deciding races and NRG, with the help of Jersey Storm, was able to take 7 of the 6 cups. Our swimmers were able to produce large drops in...
