PAY Parents Aquatic Club (PAC) Weekly News 12.6.21

Here's the Parent News you need for this week:

WELCOME BACK: Please join us in welcoming Coach Tracy Arnold-Merke back to our team.   After a few months away we are thrilled to have Coach Tracy back on deck to help coach our swim team for 2 nights a week.  Coach Tracy has been a swim coach and swim mom at PAY for over 15 years.

CONGRATULATIONS:  Anya Mostek swam at the Toyota US Open Championships swim meet Dec 1-4th  in Greensboro, NC. She had 10 amazing swims against other teens, collegiate athletes and Olympians as she swam in 100 back, 200 back, 200 IM, 50 free and 100 free - Prelims and Finals! Anya dropped time in her 200 IM, 100 Back, and 200 Back ultimately placing 8th(2:20.60), 3rd (1:01.93), and 22nd (2:16.75) in those finals.  Watching Anya finish 3rd close behind against Olympian Regan Smith was so exciting.  PAY is so proud of your hard work and dedication, Anya. Harvard is fortunate to have you on their roster next year. You’re a wonderful role model!

UPCOMING DEADLINES:

  1. Keystone Holiday Cup -Reporting times and warmup times will be sent to participants as a separate email (and posted under the event for this weekend’s competition in our Team Unify).  The facility’s livestream link has not been provided yet.  Stay tuned! While spectators will be allowed, it will be a limited number. A great way to be assured entrance is to volunteer!

  1. Ridley Classic, 12/18-12/19 - We have been allowed in to the Friday & Saturday 9&O Sessions, as well as the Saturday 8U Session and the Sunday Distance Session. Thank you for your quick responses on availability. If you did not express a preference, you were assigned to a session. If you indicated Sunday morning 9&O Session and did not adjust your preference, you were scratched (there will be more meet opportunities in January.) Warm Up information will be sent directly to participants as soon as it is available.

  1. Winterfest - the deadline to commit to attend has passed however we will likely be able to add more qualifiers until after our 12/18 meet. Swimmers age 13&O must have 2 Individual qualifying events to attend (qualifying times are listed on our website) and there is a $100 flat fee to attend this year for up to 5 events. Entries 6 & 7 are an additional $10/each. Relays are $40/team ($10/athlete.) An eligibility chart is posted in the event, updated through 11/21 - If your swimmer is listed then they are eligible to attend Winterfest at this point in time.  Any time shaded in grey is ineligible. If you have any questions, please reach out to a Coach.

  1. Remember that January is right around the corner and we will have 3 dual meets: Jan 8 (home), Jan 22 (home), Jan 29 (at West Chester Y).  Please RSVP for your swimmer under Events in Team Unify or HERE.  The Volunteer Job signups for each meet are also posted. Thanks in advance!

HIGH SCHOOL MEETS: As our High School swimmers begin their competitions, remember that it is possible to achieve a QT for either Winterfest or YMCA District competition at a High School meet. We can accept high school meet results for new qualifying events but not to improve a seed time for an existing cut. Should you achieve a qualifying time, please have your coach print a copy of the result, have it signed by the Meet Referee and forward a copy (in case we need proof of time) to Rachel Carroll ([email protected]) so she can add it to our database.

PAY SWIM ANGEL GIVING TREE: The 17th Annual PAY Swim Angel Tree is located on the Myrin pool deck.  We still have a lot of opportunities for families to participate in this loving tradition. Each swimmer is encouraged to join in gift giving for Phoenixville area children in need. Thank you for your generosity!  Here’s how it works:

-Select a gift tag (or more!) off the tree.

-Each NUMBERED card specifies a gift.

-There are also cards with a cash amount (versus a specific gift), for those who would prefer to avoid shopping. The cash donations will be combined to go towards larger items (bike, game system or grocery gift cards for example).

-Sign your name on the Sign Up Poster next to the # designated on your card, located on the wall near the tree on the swim deck.

-Bring gift (*UNWRAPPED*) to the Pool Deck on Monday 12/20/2021.  (donations of wrapping paper are also accepted)

MASTERS SWIMMERS’ MEET: We will be hosting a US Masters Swim Meet on Sunday, January 9th open to adult USMS-registered swimmers ages 18-100+.  This meet also serves as a PAY swim team fundraiser so we will look for teens and families to volunteer and help us host this incredible morning to early afternoon meet at our YMCA.

TYR BATHING CAPS: If your swimmer has lost or ripped their new TYR brand PAY bathing cap, new ones are available for $12 cash.  Please email Kate Baganski ([email protected]) to make arrangements to meet at the Y to purchase one.  These caps will also be on sale at our home meets in January.  ***Swimmers are encouraged to save the TYR swim caps for competing in swim meets so that we can have uniformity at the meets.  In contrast, for practices, swimmers can wear any bathing cap.  Silicone and latex bathing caps in an assortment of fun designs and colors are available at most sporting goods stores, Toad Hollow Swim Store in Paoli, Swimoutlet.com, Target, etc.

YMCA HOLIDAY HOOPLA:Join us for some holiday fun at the Y! On Friday, December 10th from 6PM-8PM, families can join with other YMCA families for cookie decorating, holiday crafts celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, pictures with Santa and his elves at our "Elfie Selfie" station, and reindeer games for all ages in the West gym.  Justin Chapman, Y team member and Pastor at Express Church, will lead participants in Christmas carols, accompanied by guitar music to sing along to. Families are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday pajamas to make the event even more festive! This event is free and registration is not required. Any questions reach out to the Y in person or give them a call at 610-933-5861
