Coaches and Directors
Brian Kline grew up in Ardmore, graduated from Haverford High School and then from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Starting his competitive swimming career at age 3, Brian earned Central, District, and State Recognition, followed by All-Delco and All-State honors in swimming. He was an All-American Swimmer at IUP and was All-Conference in both Swimming and Water Polo. Brian received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1995 with a minor in Aquatics as well as a Professional Teaching Certificate for Health and Physical Education (grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12thgrade).
Brian currently teaches Aquatics and Physical Education at the Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square. He began coaching and teaching at The Episcopal Academy in the fall of 1995. He started coaching at the Episcopal Academy as an assistant in swimming and water polo in 1995. He was the Varsity Water Polo coach from 1997 – 2009. The Episcopal Boys Water Polo team was undefeated in the Inter-Academic league in 1997, 1998, and 2000 and won the Inter-Ac Championship in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2001. In 1999 Brian started a Middle School Water Polo Program and helped to start the Girls Varsity Water Polo Team at Episcopal Academy. In 2004 Brian was named the Head Swimming Coach for both Varsity boys and girls teams. Many Episcopal pool and school records have been broken under the leadership of Brian Kline. The boys and girls teams continue to climb the rankings locally and Nationally. In 2009 the Varsity girls swimming team broke school and league history capturing a share of the Inter Academic title.
In addition to his role at The Episcopal Academy, Brian has been the Head Swimming and Aquatics Director at the Waynesborough Country Club since 1997. The Waynesborough team has been Division Champions 14 years under his leadership and has won the League Championship four times. With an overall record of 85 wins and 10 losses Brian has helped place Waynesborough's name among the best in the league.

A native of Lancaster, PA, Quincy began swimming competitively at the age of 7 for the Lancaster Area YMCA and swam with this club for eight years. He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School and was a stand-out member of their swim team throughout high school.
Upon graduation, Quincy enlisted in the military and is a Gulf War veteran. While stationed in Hawaii, he competed in several open ocean swims. Quincy completed his service in 1995 and then graduated from West Chester University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies.
In 1999, he began coaching the swim team at Waynesborough Country Club alongside Brian Kline, where the team has been Division Champions each year and League Champions four of the last five years.
Quincy returned to West Chester University to obtain his elementary education teaching certification. Since receiving this certification in 2002, he has taught at the elementary level at The Episcopal Academy where he is currently teaching 5th Grade.
Quincy has been coaching the boys and girls Varsity swimming teams with Brian Kline and has been instrumental in the growth of the swimming program at EA. Quincy is taking his teaching and coaching expertise to a new level and, with co-founder Brian Kline, eaac is building champions in and out of the pool!
Dave Phelan grew up in Morristown, NJ and began swimming competitively at age 6 under Hall of Fame coach Robert Alexander (aka "Mr. A") of the North Jersey Swimming Association. In 1963, as a 10 year old, he was the AAU Junior Olympic champion in the 50 Yd Free and also won the AAU Senior State championship in the 200 Free in 1970. Dave attended Morristown H.S. and was a NJSIAA (High School Sates) finalist earning All-State honors in 1970 and 1971 in the 200 and 400 Yd Free placing second in both. He attended the University of Vermont from 1971 - 1975 earning All Yankee Conference honors in 1973, 1974 and 1975 and All New England honors in 1975. He earned a BA in Education in 1976. In 1986, Dave won the 200 and 500 Yd Free at the National YMCA Master Championships at Indianapolis, IN.
Dave began his coaching career as a Graduate Assistant and the University of Vermont in 1976. In 1977 he took a teaching position and the head coach position in Mountain Lakes, NJ where he remained until 1985. During his tenure at Mountain Lakes H.S., the team won Morris County Championships in '78, '79, '80, '81, '82 and '84. At State championships (NJSIIA), the teams placed '79-2nd, 81-3rd, '82-3rd, '85-3rd. Dave was also head coach of the Lakeland Hills YMCA team from 1979-1986 which won seven North Championships (NJ State) from 1980 to 1986.
Dave left teaching in 1985 to work in the computer software industry. Dave and his wife Kathy have four children (Kate, David, Sean and Colleen) and live in Devon.
