What is a trial swim? A trial swim is an opportunity for you to learn about our team and see if the team would be a good fit for you and if you will be a good fit for the team.
What do I need for my trial swim? All you need is your swimsuit, a swim cap, a pair of goggles and a towel. There are lockers available at Baruch College. We recommend you bring a lock with you for your belongings.
How much does a trial swim cost? Nothing! The trial swim is free, so there is no cost to you. If you are dropping in from out of town or another team, please note that there is a $20 drop in fee.
How long is the workout? Practices vary from one hour to two hours and a complete current schedule can be seen on our homepage.
When can I schedule a trial swim? We offer trial swims during all scheduled practices. Please email [email protected] to schedule your trial swim before signing up.
How much can I expect to swim on a typical workout? You should expect to swim between 2,000 and 4,500 meters depending on your skill level and swimming background. Our practices are run in a team setting, so you should be comfortable swimming with several other people in your lane. On average you can expect to swim with 4 to 6 swimmers in your lane.
How is the workout run? Each swim workout is divided into four sections - warm-up, pre-set, main-set and cool down. If a dry-land session is scheduled, this will consist of 30 minutes of core work combined with stretching.
I have been out of the water for a long time, do I have to swim the entire workout? The answer is no. If you have not swam in a long time, we don't expect you to swim the entire practice. Must masters swimmers are coming back to the sport after taking a break from the sport. On average we have swimmers that have been out of the water for 5 to 10 years.
How are the lanes set-up? Workout groups are divided according to each swimmer's ability and goals. Each swimmer will be assigned to a lane by the coach according to their skill set and individual goal.
What do I need to do to schedule a trial swim? Send an email to [email protected] , with your requested trial swim date. A team representative will get back to you and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
After an agreed date, you will need to complete the Online Trial Swim Registration which will serve as your insurance for your trial swim. After you have registered, you must print out your trial swim registration and presented to the coach on your trial swim date.
