Our Competive Swim Groups

Super Squad

Super Squad is for entry level competitive swimmers. The emphasis at the Super Squad level continues to be on skill acquisition and development. Swimmers are taught the basics of the four competitive strokes, as well as competition starts and turns. Swimmers in Super Squad are encouraged to experience the fun of competition at Swim Manitoba sanctioned “Program/Invitationals”. Emphasis is placed on developing positive self-esteem, making new friends and having fun!

Multi-Sport Group

The Multi-Sport Group will be geared towards swimmers (AGD level and above) who are 13 years old and older who wish to further their technical and training skills, but whose commitments outside the pool (academics, other sports) make it difficult to commit to training at the TAG or NAT level.

Age Group Developmental

The Age Group Developmental program continues to build on the skills introduced at the Super Squad level, including endurance and technical proficiency. An introduction to dry land training, including body weight exercises, begins at this level. Endurance, conditioning and stroke refinement continues to be emphasized. In addition, competitive skills, goal setting and an understanding of time standards are introduced .

Age Group Elite

Swimmers at the Age Group Elite level have a higher level of competitive swimming experience. Dry land training, endurance, conditioning and stroke refinement are skills that continue to be emphasized at the Age Group Elite level. Race strategy, competitive skills, goal setting and an understanding of time standards are further developed.

Top Age Group 1 and 2

Swimmers in Top Age Groups 1 and 2 have a high level of competitive swimming experience, as well as commitment to the sport. Endurance, speed, conditioning and stroke refinement are emphasized. In addition, race strategy, competitive skills, goal setting and an understanding of time standards are emphasized. Swimmers are expected to have a high attendance percentage and are chosen for this group based on their maturity, technique, endurance, and race performance.

National Prep Group

The Marlins added the National Prep Group in the 2011/2012 season to help promote swimmer advancement through all levels in our competitive program. This group is designed for swimmer 14 years old (or 14 turning 15 in season) who are making the transition from age group to senior swimming. Swimmers in the NAT PREP GROUP are preparing for eventual advancement into the NATIONAL group. The training program is tailored to maintain the same amount of training hours as TAG 2 (13.5 hours of swimming and 3 hours dry-land) as they prepare for transition and are exposed to a more senior training environment. Weight training is introduced at the NP level and is considered to be an important component of this program. Training at this level becomes more specialized and geared towards individual abilities and goals. Swimmers will train 7 sessions per week, and are expected to be committed to their goals and maintain high attendance. Swimmers must be at least 14 years old while being physically and mentally ready to handle the training program.

National Group

National Group is the Club’s most elite level, where appropriate training is provided to swimmers who wish to make an uncompromised commitment to the pursuit of excellence. Swimmers in the National Group have superior skills, performance, and attitude or have demonstrated the ability to train consistently in a high-intensity training environment. Training in this group is highly specific and swimmers must be committed to full participation in the program. This group is dedicated to training athletes who have achieved or who demonstrate the potential to achieve Top Age Group, Youth, National, or International Standards.
