This is the Club’s most elite level, where appropriate training is provided to swimmers who wish to make an uncompromised commitment to the pursuit of excellence.  Swimmers in the National Group have superior skills, performance, and attitude or have demonstrated the ability to train consistently in a high-intensity training environment. Training in this group is highly specific and swimmers must be committed to full participation in the program. This group is dedicated to training athletes who have achieved or who demonstrate the potential to achieve Top Age Group, Youth, National, or International Standards.

Group Objectives and Focus

  • The ability to maintain technique under higher volumes and increased intensity
  • Developing swimmers’ individual strengths through nurturing technical and tactical skills based on specific strokes and distances
  • Training and racing protocols will be refined to meet individual needs
  • Specialization in specific strokes and distances All physical, mental, technical, tactical and routines will be fully established at the NAT level Swimmers are trained for peak events
  • Training is individualized.

Apparel and Equipment Requirements

Apparel Requirements at Practice

  • Running shoes (no deck shoes)
  • Marlin t-shirt
  • Athletic shorts
  • Goggles
  • Training suit (must be black with green piping or have a green pattern primarily)
  • Marlin's cap *All swimmers are required to wear a Marlin cap at practice.

Apparel Requirements at Meets

  • Team Attire = any attire which bears the MM logo (i.e. Team sweats, t-shirts, towels, shorts, tracksuits etc.)
  • Running shoes or deck shoes (preferably running shoes)
  • Goggles
  • Racing suit (must be black, green or a combination of both colours). Nothing below the knees for males and females. Nothing above the waist for males. Nothing past the shoulders for females.
  • Marlin's cap *All swimmers are required to wear a Marlin cap at meets.

Group Equipment Requirements

  • Arena Tech-Pro fins
  • Pull buoy
  • Finger paddles
  • Kickboard
  • Snorkle (with O2 cap)
  • Paddles (flat yellow Speedo for males, flat red Speedo for females)
  • Water bottle
  • Mesh Bag
  • Drag & Fly resistance trainer (supplied by Club)
  • Swimmers are expected to have their training equipment with them at every practice.
