Coaches and Directors
Trent loves swimming. He learned his skills at age 4 from Olympian Susan Roy in a backyard pool in Mountain View, CA. His love of swimming led him to join De Anza Cupertino Aquatics (DACA) at age 6. He qualified for Far Westerns and Western Zones as an age group swimmer, finaled at Sectionals and the Santa Clara International Meet as a Senior and went on to qualify for Jr. and Senior Nationals. He qualified for CCS all four years, finaled his last three years and qualified for CCS in every single event his last two years. As a Senior, Trent went undefeated and won CCS titles in the 200 IM and 100 Back together with earning All American honours in both events. He began coaching with Fremont Hills Country Club (FHCC) eventually earning the Head Coach position. Eager for more challenge Trent accepted a position with PASA for 3 years before moving on to his alma mater DACA and becoming Associate Coach at Saratoga HS. During his 5 year tenure at DACA Trent developed JO, Far Western and CCS qualifiers. Trent lives in Carmel with his wife and 4 young children.
Mary Hazdovac has been with the Monterey Bay Swim Club (MBSC) for 0ver 20 years. She brings experienced leadership to a program that is the best in the county. MBSC programs emphasize the healthful benefits of swimming. Hazdovac serves as a mentor for all student athletes she coaches. Ms. Hazdovac has a Masters degree in psychology.
MBSC is excited to have Oceana as a Swim Coach and Lessons Instructor. Oceana has worked in aquatics as a lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor since 2015. Oceana has a competitive swimming background with Santa Maria Swim Club, Righetti High School, and Allan Hancock College.

Lauren was born and raised in West Michigan, where she started swimming at the age of six. She attended the United States Naval Academy where she was an NCAA D1 athlete, swimming all four years. She was team captain her senior year and broke the school record in the 200 backstroke. Lauren has a degree in Oceanography and is currently pursuing her masters degree in Meteorology and Oceanography at the Naval Postgraduate School. She also is a member of MBSC/JAMM masters team.
Antonella has been swimming at a competitive level since age 4 starting in Southern California and continues to train regularly. Utilizing her personal experience in the pool, she creates a safe and fun environment for kids to develop an admiration for the sport. Antonella teaches swim lessons throughout the year and co-coaches our newer swimmers in Blue group.
With his birthplace being Santa Monica, Timothy enjoyed year-round competitive swimming and water polo from an early age. As a result, he’s swum sufficient miles to have traversed the United States and back. Timothy has competed both in pool and in rough water settings along the coasts and in the lakes of California and Brazil, including on the beaches of Saquerema and around Rio de Janiero. Timothy trained under and competed for Coach Ted Trendt who was the original founder of the Monterey Bay Swim Club. Timothy came out of swimming retirement in the early 90s to take first place at the Pacific Masters Swimming Championship in the 200 Backstroke, and he holds a Bronze Medal for his participation at the Wildflower Triathlon at Lake San Antonio. Timothy has undergone the rigorous first responder training of the California State Lifeguards in Huntington Beach, and he’s coached under supervision of renowned Olympic coaches Pete Cutino of U.C. Berkeley and Jim Gaughran of Stanford University. Timothy permanently relocated to Monterey nearly 40 years ago and in that time he has earned degrees in International Studies and in Instructional Science and Technology and he holds a language teaching certificate from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. While Monterey has been his permanent home, Timothy has lived for extended periods in both Brazil and in Spain where he taught English. He has traveled widely in South America and visited both Portugal and Mexico. In addition, Timothy has served his community as a Monterey City Councilmember, and he was appointed Vice Mayor for the City of Monterey from 2017-2018. Timothy is the proud parent of two lovely adult children. In addition to coaching for the Monterey Bay Swim Club, Timothy coaches Water Polo at Carmel High School.
Christian is a senior at Pacific Grove High School. He plays varsity water polo and is the captain of the PGHS swim team. He has swam competitively with MBSC since he was 10 years old. Christian has been teaching swim lessons for over 2 years and enjoys every second of the job with his amazing co-workers and the children he teaches.
