Our Mission:  Maryland Swimming provides opportunities for athletes to participate in competitive swimming, reach their full potential, and develop skills for life-long success.

Our DE&I Mission: We need every swimmer, every coach, every volunteer, and every community member to commit to improving our diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Our Core Values:  Proactive Achievement, Respect, and Ownership.

MDSI Safe Competition Policy

To provide a safe and competitive environment for Maryland Swimming during the COVID pandemic.

Approved Policy:

Swim Meets held under a MDSI sanction will adhere to the venue capacity limitations of the local health authority.  When there are venue capacity limitations, participation of athletes will be prioritized over spectators.

Masks covering nose and mouth will be worn by all competitors, coaches, officials, meet staff, volunteers, and spectators, in all areas of the swim venue.  Athletes will remove masks immediately prior to entering the pool and shall restore masks upon exiting the pool.  Masks may be removed while actively eating or drinking.

Compliance with this policy is the responsibility of all USA Swimming Registered Members including athletes, coaches, officials, meet staff and volunteers.

Failure to comply will result in removal from the facility location and is subject to Maryland Swimming and USA Swimming Code of Conduct.

This policy is required to be added to all Meet Notices and is in effect until further notice.

Maryland Swimming will review this policy at the December 2021 Board of Directors meeting.

Best Practices for Meet Directors and Coaches

Before the Meet:

When planning out your meet flow and deck layout don’t forget to consider where swimmers will be placing their masks while they are swimming.  This could be a designated chair behind each block (that the timers do not sit on), a basket or tub, etc.

Keep Extra Supplies on Hand:

Make sure you have extra disposable masks on hand for those in need.  Have extra plastic bags as well to help keep masks dry and sanitary while the swimmer is in the water.

This policy applies to everyone participating at the meet venue.  This includes coaches, swimmers, meet staff, officials, volunteers, and spectators, regardless of vaccination status.  A very large portion of our LSC is not yet eligible to receive a vaccination and it is up to us to keep them safe during competitions.
