Our Values: Character, Commitment, and Teamwork

Founded in 1992, the Eagle Swim Team (EST) is a year round, competitive United States Swimming registered team.  All EST coaches, parents, and team members share and contribute to our major team objectives.

1.  To provide quality coaching, training, and competition for all team members.
2.  To assist all team members in realizing and striving for their full potential in competitive swimming.
3.  To help develop important life skills, such as self discipline, communication, goal setting, self-confidence, and  sportsmanship.
4.  To provide opportunities for educational and emotional growth through training, competition, and travel.

Brief Team History

In the spring of 1992, McDonogh School hired Scott Ward as their new Aquatics Director and Varsity Swimming and Water Polo coach.  That summer, the Eagle Swim Team (EST), was formed by Coach Ward to provide a quality competitive swim team for all interested swimmers.  Helping Coach Ward build the team were assistant coaches Vicki Hedden, Patrice Draminski, and Cyndy Lopata.  The team finished that year with 72 dedicated athletes and the Eagles earned recognition with outstanding performances at the Eastern Zones Championships and the U.S. Junior Nationals.

Since that year Eagle has consistently produced outstanding student athletes with the most notable being Tommy Hannan, a member of the 2000 Olympic gold-medal winning 400-medley relay in Sydney, Australia.  In 2006 McDonogh School finished construction of an entirely new aquatics facility which includes a 50 meter long course pool with an adjustable bulkhead and two operational dryland rooms.  Each year Eagle moves its way up the USA Swimming Virtual Club Rankings and continues to be one of the best clubs in Maryland.

With the invaluable support of the McDonogh School, EST will continue to “Strive for Excellence in Swimming and in Life” and to prepare today’s youth to be tomorrow’s leaders.
