What is YMCA Swimming?
SPY has been a member of the Chesapeake and Potomac (C&P) YMCA Swim League since 1976. The C&P League consists of about 15 teams, divided into 3 geographic divisions.
The YMCA Short Course Season: September through April.
Based on the swimmer's age as of December 1

Dual Meets

C&P League Championships, in which all swimmers can participate

District Championships, in which qualifying times apply (Maryland, Delaware, Northern Virginia)

Invitational Meets and Open Competitions (like the Capital Classic in Raleigh, NC)

YMCA National Championships, often held in Florida and in which rigorous qualifying times apply.
The YMCA Long Course Season: April Through August
Based on the swimmer's age as of May 1

No dual meets

3 or 4 USA or YMCA Long Course Meets, both in state and out of state

YMCA National Championships in early August.

Swimmers must have swum 2 or more Long Course meets.

Rigorous qualifying times apply.
Additionally, it is SPY's policy that a swimmer must qualify in at least two individual events to attend Long Course Y Nationals. Exceptions may be granted by the coaching staff.
