WHAT is a DQ (disqualification) and why was my swimmer DQ'd?

Go to the registration button on the home page.

The Sharks swim team is open to swimmers aged 5 to 18 as of June 1st of the swim year.  Each swimmer must be able to swim at least one legal stroke the length of the pool (25 meters) without stopping or touching the side.

However if the kids are close, the coach can allow them on the team to practice until they can swim the length of the pool.  Once they accomplish that, the swimmers can be entered into the meets.  Note: over the course of the season the swimmer will gain strength and confidence to make it across the pool.

If there is a question of completing the task, the coach can conduct a try-out to assess the qualifications.  “Try-outs” are not intended to find the fastest x swimmers.  So if the kids meet the swim across the pool criteria (or close) there will be no issue and will be on the team. (i.e., there are no cuts)

Coaches reserve the right to make the final decision regarding swimmer qualifications.

OUTDOOR PRACTICE:  Practices are held at the Smoky Hill Pool, 5405 S. Telluride.  Practices start the first Tuesday after Memorial Day, for 2020 that is May 26th.

Please see the practice schedule tab for exact times and group descriptions.

Friday evenings, are a little different this year. We'll meet at 6:45 p.m. to go over weekly awards and discuss the meet. Then, those that want to stay and participate, can stay for our Fun Night! A time for kids and parents to have some fun, make new friends, and build team spirit.

Schedules may change, please check the Practice tab for the current practice schedule

Swimmers are expected to attend at least three practices a week.  If they cannot make it to 3

practices, the swimmer must inform the head coach.

Each family is required to volunteer at each and every meet that they have a swimmer in the water, in addition to 1 social event.  Meets will be held at local pools on Saturday mornings (7:30a.m. – 1:30 p.m.) during May, June, and July. You are required to find someone to cover your shift if you are not available to volunteer.

Vacation plans? No problem! We have many families that take vacations in the summer. You still need to

fulfill your volunteer requirements, but there are many opportunities outside of swim meets to get your

hours in.

Volunteers are necessary to help run the swim team.  Without the active participation of parents, it is not possible to have any meets.  Each family is required to volunteer at each and every meet regardless of it being at home or away.  See volunteer position doc at the top of the page for additional information.

The Board believes that only one volunteer shift per family per meet is sufficient to run the team; however, everyone is encouraged to pitch in and help when the need arises; even if you already met your assigned shift for that meet.  If your child swims at Prelims/Championships/All-stars you will be required to volunteer additionally at those meets as well.

If you are unable to cover the shift(s) that you signed up for, YOU are responsible to find a replacement volunteer AND let the volunteer coordinator know of your replacement.

In the event that a replacement is not found, and your obligation is not met, you may be charged the following:

- $25 fine for Away Meets
