Welcome to JR Riptide!
The Rockford Riptide JR Riptide Swim Team is a developmental swim program for new swimmers that bridges the gap between Learn-to-Swim and our Rockford Riptide USA Swim Team. Each JR Riptide session lasts 7 weeks.
The JR Riptide program focuses on smaller swimmer-to-coach ratios. The practices focus on all four competitive strokes, starts, finishes, race strategy and water safety.
At the end of each session we host a Mini–Meet. A Mini–Meet is a low-key intra-squad meet where each swimmer is given a chance to shine and show off all his or her hard work! The Mini-Meet is one of our favorite days, we encourage each swimmer to invite grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousin, etc – it’s an exciting day for the team!
All JR Riptide Swimmers are encouraged to participate in WMSL and USA Meets when applicable.
How Do You Become a Junior Riptide Team Member?
Incoming members and members who have taken a session off must come to a swim evaluation join the JR Riptide Swim Team. The evaluation allows us to place your swimmer in the appropriate group and verifies the JR Riptide program is the right place for them. The evaluation dates and times can be found under the Session Info tab. We do recommend registering for the session before coming to the evaluation. Spots are limited and fill up quickly.
Is My Swimmer Ready to Join the JR Riptide Swim Team?
Swimmers who have progressed beyond a Learn-to-Swim program and are interested in trying a competitive swimming program should consider joining the JR Riptide Swim Team.
JR Riptide Group 1 (entry level) must met the following requirements at evaluation:
- Swim 25 yards Freestyle (front crawl) without stopping
- Swim 25 yards Backstroke (back crawl) without stopping
