Royal Swimming offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of Royal Swimming to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Novice Group (ages 4-8)

Swimmers must be comfortable in the water (both shallow and deep). They must be able to practice for 40 minutes. In order to be in Novice, a swimmer must be able to complete one length of the pool on their stomach without stopping and the same on their back. In this group, focus will be on body position, proper kick for all 4 competitive strokes and basic arm pull for free style and backstroke.
Workout Days/Times: 
M/W/F 6-6:40p, Sa 10-10:40a

Novice 2 Group (ages 9 and up)

Swimmers must be comfortable in the water (both shallow and deep). They must be able to practice for 40 minutes. In order to be in Novice, a swimmer must be able to complete one length of the pool on their stomach without stopping and the same on their back. In this group, focus will be on body position, proper kick for all 4 competitive strokes and basic arm pull for free style and backstroke. This group meets 4 times a week for 60 min

Workout Days/Times: M/W/F 6-7p, Sa 10-11a

 

Intermediate Group (ages 9-12)

From the Novice group, athletes move into this group. Swimmers should have a legal kick for all 4 strokes. Swimmers should be able to swim 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Focus in this group will be stroke refinement for all 4 strokes, turns and starts. Swimmers will learn to read the pace clock and start to work on executing swim and kick sets. Swimmers in this group are expected to swim 25, 50’s and 100’s at swim meets.
Workout Days/Times: M-W&F 6-7:10p

Junior Group (ages 9-13)

From the Intermediate group, athletes move into this group. Swimmers in this group must have the ability to read the pace clock. They also have achieved a Q2 or Q1 time standard (Junior Olympic or State Championship qualifying time) Swimmers must be able to kick 10 x 50 @ 1:15 or faster and swim 8 x 100 @ 1:50 or faster. Swimmers in this group will continue to refine stroke and turn technique and while increasing their training. Swimmers in this group are expected to swim 50, 100 and 200 of all 4 strokes including the 200 IM and 500 Free. More advanced swimmers in this group are expected to also swim the 400IM along with the longer distance events chosen by the coach.

Senior Group

This group is for the high school and year round swimmers who have or are working towards state qualifying standards or higher and can handle higher level aerobic workouts. These swimmers will be preparing to compete at the state, zone and potentially sectional level competitions. The overall workload and expectations increase as athletes are exposed to more practice hours, endurance training and higher levels of competition. The swimmers are expected to practice a minimum of 4 out of the 6 practices offered per week.

Minimum age for entry into this group is 13 years old. 
Workout Days/Times: M-R 7-9pm, Fri 7-8:30, Sa 10a-12p

 

** Once Girls high school swim season is over, Junior group and Senior group will move to a 6PM start time and last 90 min and 120 min each.
