Team Fundraising and Volunteer Activities
(FUNDRAISING AND VOLUNTEER POLICY)
A long standing tradition at YMCA has been to provide support to the swim team. Parents and families of the swimmers have always provided the necessary leadership to accomplish the goals and tasks at hand.
Equally important to your child's swimming is YOUR INVOLVEMENT in our organization. The swim team cannot run without a lot of parent participation. It is not fair when the same group of parents carries the burden for the whole team. Participation in swim team requires two volunteer components; Volunteer Work and Fundraising.
EXEMPTION OPPORTUNITY: Become a certified USA or YMCA swimming official! If either parent meets the requirements to become a swim official then they will not be required to fulfill any other volunteer or fundraising commitments. They will be required however to work as a swim official at all Y swim team home meets – typically two per year. Please contact the swim team head coach or any Parent Advisory Committee member if you are interested.
VOLUNTEER WORK
Each family will be required to volunteer for 4 hours per “season” or 8 hours total for the full swim year (Sep – Apr). First “season” will run from September thru December and the second “season” will run from Jan thru April. There will be two home meets typically per year. If a family does not volunteer for a four hour shift they will be required to pay a $50 fee to the team in lieu of volunteering. The $50 fee will be charged to the swim account in the Jan and May following the respective “season” and charged to the credit card on file.
Volunteer work may consist of the following – there will be an online sign-up sheet available prior to the event:
1. Work in several areas on the pool deck at each home meet: timers, runner, event board & clean-up, organize swimmers etc. at our home meets and/or volunteer to staff the concession stands. There are a myriad of jobs available meeting everyone's talents and capabilities. The money raised at these large meets can range from $1,000-$5,000 depending on the size of the meet and this money helps to keep the cost of participating in the Swim Team manageable.
2. Work as a volunteer at any team event. Sign up for the various duties that may be necessary to run team events. On-line volunteer job sign-up sheets will be made available.
FUNDRAISING WORK
Each family will be required to fundraise $100 for the swim team for the full swim year (Sep – Apr) or $50 if they swim only one “season”. First “season” will run from September thru December and the second “season” will run from Jan thru April. If a family does not fundraise the required amount they will be required to pay the shortfall to the team. Any fundraising shortfall will be charged to the swim account in the Jan and May following the respective “season” and charged to the credit card on file.
Fundraising work may consist of the following – there will be an online sign-up sheet available prior to the event:
1. Swim-4-Fundz – this event is usually held in October or November. During the event swimmers attempt to swim as many lengths of the pool as they can in a designated time frame depending on their ability. The swimmers are given sponsorship forms and asked to collect as many donations as possible e.g. amount per lengths swam or fixed amount. All sponsorship forms and money must be turned in by the deadline date.
2. Silent Auction – this event is usually held in April. Swimmers and their families are asked to donate items they collect from local businesses or family/friends that can be used to raise money for the swim team during the silent auction.
Please sign below to indicate your understanding of the Swim Team Family Volunteer & Fundraising Requirements and that you are aware you will be required to pay the amounts for not completing ALL of your volunteer and fundraising requirements for the season.
