GOLDSHARKS, GOLDJETS & COMPETITIVE PREP PRACTICE GROUP CRITERIA
 
The GOLDSHARKS and GOLDJETS levels are designed to give 6-to-8-year-old (and some 9-year old) swimmers a positive and technically sound introduction to a swim team experience. These levels are designed to introduce the enjoyment and basic skills of competitive swimming. The COMPETITIVE PREP  level is designed for 9-to-12-year-olds that may be new to competitive swimming and have completed at least an advanced level of swim lessons.
 
GOLDSHARKS
GOLDSHARKS are new 6-to-9-year-old swimmers who will learn the basics of all four competitive strokes. They will also learn the skills necessary to compete in the sport of swimming such as working with teammates, following directions, and listening to the coaches, learning, and smiling a lot! GOLDSHARKS must meet the following criteria:
  • Legally swim and kick 25 yards in two different strokes without any stopping/assistance
  • Comfortable in deep water and in a group setting away from parents and/or caretakers
  • Attend one to three 45-minute practices offered each week
 
GOLDJETS
GOLDJETS are new and experienced 6-to-8-year-old (and some 9-year old) swimmers who are already legal in the three competitive strokes. They will also learn the skills necessary to compete in the sport of swimming such as working with teammates, following directions, and listening to the coaches, more advanced drills, learning, and smiling a lot! GOLDJETS must meet the following criteria:
  • Legally swim and kick 25 yards in three different strokes without any stopping/assistance
  • Comfortable in deep water and in a group setting away from parents and/or caretakers
  • A and or B times in two events
  • Swim 10 x 50 @ 1:15
  • Kick 10 x 25 @ :50
  • Attend two to three 60 minute practices offered each week
 
COMPETITIVE PREP
COMPETITIVE PREP are swimmers ages 9 and older who will focus on the foundations of competitive swimming. They will learn the detailed technique in freestyle and backstroke and the mechanics of breaststroke and butterfly. The swimmers will learn training fundamentals such as swimming as a group, interval training, reading a pace clock, and how to properly use swim equipment. They will also learn the skills necessary to compete in the sport of swimming such as working with teammates, following directions and listening to the coaches, and smiling a lot! COMPETITIVE PREP  must meet the following criteria:
  • Legally swim and kick 25 yards in two different strokes without any stopping/assistance
  • Comfortable in deep water and in a group setting away from parents and/or caretakers
  • Attend at least two of the three 45-minute practices or 60-minute practices offered each week

*NOTE: Due to COVID restrictions and limited pool availability, Competitive Prep is not currently offered.
