AGE GROUP PROGRAM: AGES 9 - 12

The focus of our Age Group program is to develop efficiency within all four strokes – butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle, with proper technique and distance per stroke.  We aim to teach our athletes the importance of learning how to train and compete within a healthy, fun, and competitive environment.

We have 7 levels within the Age Group portion of the club – Age Group Prep A, Age Group Prep B, Age Group Bronze A, Age Group Bronze B, Age Group Silver 1, Age Group Silver 2, and Age Group Gold. Practices are designed to improve skill and technique, develop concentration and learn to swim fast while having fun with friends.  Each group is progressively more challenging with our highest Age Group category being Age Group Gold.  

AGE GROUP PREP B

This is our entry level group for new age group competitive swimmers. Prep B swimmers will begin to develop all 4 strokes as well as the fundamentals of competitive starts and turns. Placement into Age Group Prep B requires the following:

  • swim 50 yards of freestyle with rhythmic breathing – without stopping
  • swim 50 yards of backstroke – without stopping

Swimmers in this group are age 9-12. This group is offered 2 practices a week. Prep swimmers are encouraged to participate in the novice meets that are offered. Group equipment consists of a mesh bag to carry their water bottle, kick board and fins. Please label all personal equipment.

AGE GROUP PREP A

This is our entry level group to competitive swimming. Swimmers in age group prep A have been swimming competitively for at least 6 months.  AGP A swimmers will continue to develop all 4 strokes as well as Starts, flip turns, and the competitive basics. Placement into Age Group Prep A requires the following:

  • swim 50 yards of freestyle with rhythmic breathing (must do this with a flip turn)
  • swim 50 yards of backstroke non-stop
  • ability to push off the wall in the streamline position
  • ability to swim a 25 of breaststroke legally
  • ability to swim a 25 of butterfly legally
  • ability to complete a flip turn
  • ability to dive off the starting block

Swimmers in this group are age 9-12. This group is offered 2 practices a week. Prep swimmers are encouraged to participate in the novice meets that are offered. Group equipment consists of a mesh bag to carry their water bottle, kick board and fins. Please label all personal equipment.

 

AGE GROUP BRONZE B

This group’s focus is on technique but there are also elements of training, intervals, and race readiness. To be placed in Age Group Bronze B, a swimmer must have:

  • Established times in all four 50’s and the 100 IM

They must also be able to complete the following test sets:

  • 4 x 100 free @ 2:45 – with flip turns
  • 6 x 50 flutter kick @ 1:50

Swimmers in this group are age 9-12. This group is offered 3 practices each week and coaches would like to see swimmers at a minimum of 2 practice per week. Swimmers are encouraged to compete in 1 meet per month and finals meets. We encourage Age Group Bronze swimmers to attend our Novice meets, USA Swim Meets and the MAC Championship.  Group equipment consists of a mesh bag to carry their water bottle, kick board, snorkel, and fins. Please label all personal equipment.

AGE GROUP BRONZE A

This group’s focus is on technique but there are also elements of training, intervals, and race readiness. To be placed in Age Group Bronze A, a swimmer must have:

  • Established times in all four 50’s and the 100 IM

They must also be able to complete the following test sets:

  • 6 x 100 free @ 2:30
  • 8 x 50 flutter kick @ 1:40

Swimmers in this group are age 9-12. This group is offered 3 practices each week and coaches would like to see swimmers at a minimum of 2 practice per week. Swimmers are encouraged to compete in 1 meet per month and finals meets. We encourage Age Group Bronze swimmers to attend our Novice meets, USA Swim Meets and the MAC Championship.  Group equipment consists of a mesh bag to carry their water bottle, kick board, snorkel, and fins. Please label all personal equipment.

AGE GROUP SILVER 2

Swimmers in this group are age 9-12 and ready to be challenged.  The focus at this level is further development of their technique and learning more about race strategy. There will be emphasis on learning more advanced drills combined with training sets. Swimmers at this level should be competing at the MAC Championships and MRC Championships and working toward advancement into AGS1. Advancement criteria into Age Group Silver 2 consists of the following:

  • Established times in all 9-10 events
  • 4 – Silver times for 9-10
  • 8 x 100 free @ 2:15
  • 8 x 50 flutter kick @ 1:30
  • Minimum 100 IM time of 1:45

Age Group Silver has 5 practices offered a week.  The expectation is that swimmers attend at least 4 practices a week. AGS 2 swimmers are expected to compete in 1 meet per month and all qualified Championship meets. Group equipment consists of a mesh bag to carry their water bottle, kick board, fins, stroke maker paddles, pull buoy and snorkel. Please label all personal equipment.

AGE GROUP SILVER 1

Swimmers in this group are age 9-12 and ready to be challenged.  This group moves at a quicker pace than AGS2.  The focus at this level is further development of their technique and learning more about race strategy. There will be emphasis on learning more advanced drills combined with training sets. Swimmers at this level should be competing at the MRC Championships, State Championships and working toward advancement into AGG.  Advancement criteria into Age Group Silver consists of the following:

  • Established times in all 9-10 events
  • 2 – Gold times for 9-10 or 6 Silver 9-10 times
  • 8 x 100 free @ 2:00
  • 10 x 50 flutter kick @ 1:20
  • Minimum 100 IM time of 1:30

Age Group Silver has 5 practices offered a week.  The expectation is that swimmers attend at least 4 practices a week. AGS 1 swimmers are expected to compete in 1-2 meets per month and all qualified Championship meets. Group equipment consists of a mesh bag to carry their water bottle, kick board, fins, stroke maker paddles, pull buoy and snorkel. Please label all personal equipment.

AGE GROUP GOLD

This group consists of swimmers age 9–12 and prepares them for the Senior level. They have mastered the Age Group Silver and/or Gator 3 curriculum and are dedicated to competitive swimming. This group contains a mix of advanced skill technique and training with an emphasis on preparing for Senior level.  Swimmers in this group will compete at MRC, State, and Zone, and Sectional Championships. Advancement criteria into Age Group Gold consists of the following:

  • Have established times in all IMX events
  • 10 x 100 on 1:40
  • 12 x 50 flutter kick @ 1:10
  • All swimmers must have 4 x 10 Under Gold times.
  • All swimmers must have 200 IM at or below 3:00.
  • All swimmers must be able to read and following sets and set intervals before advancement.
  • All swimmers must be able to demonstrate emotional maturity to advance into this group. This includes but is not limited to listening and applying instructions and displaying a positive attitude and good sportsmanship in and out of the pool.

There are 6 practices offered each week and Age Group Gold swimmers are expected to attend at least 5. Swimmers are expected to compete in 1-2 meets per month and all qualified Championship meets. Group equipment consists of a mesh bag to carry the following: water bottle, kick board, fins, stroke maker paddles, pull buoy and snorkel. Please label all personal equipment.
