Practice Groups

Piranhas Swim Club will group the swimmers into separate training groups:

Why do we group swimmers?

The Piranhas Swim Club separates its athletes into different groups for practice. While the groups tend to have specific age ranges, qualifications for each group are primarily dependent on ability and dedication to the sport. This approach enhances the athletic experience for the swimmers and gives them an opportunity to create friendships.

Piranhas will teach all the skills in a progressive manner as the swimmers transition from group to group.  As they progress through the groups they will find new challenges within the sport of swimming while forming strong friendships.

Practice and Meet Requirements

Practice and meets are where Piranhas swimmers and families come together as a team.  It is where our swimmers get to know each other, where they continue to make friendships, and learn what it means to be a part of team.  We want to see our Piranhas at the pool and enjoying the sport!  Each group has their own guidelines for practice and meet requirements.  We set a minimum guideline for what is expected within each group.  As swimmers progress through the groups the expectations increase.  We do expect that all swimmers attend the Championship meet that he/she qualifies for.  We post meet and championship meet dates months in advance in order for families to plan accordingly.

Apparel Requirements

All families will have the opportunity to purchase a Piranhas Team T-Shirt upon registration for each season.  Although not required, we encourage all meet participating swimmers to wear a Piranhas t-shirt.  Each swimmer will also have the opportunity to purchase Team warm-ups (jacket and pants), Team Parka, and Team Swimming Suits in the beginning of the season through Elsmore Swim Shops.  We will also have various apparel sales throughout the season (hoodies, t-shirts, etc.).

We encourage all of our swimmers to wear Piranhas apparel at ALL team functions and swim meets.

Equipment Requirements

Each training group will have different equipment requirements.  The Piranhas Swim Club does have kick boards, pull boueys, and fins that can be borrowed at every practice and left at the pool.  We suggest that all swimmers purchase there own fins as our sizes vary and we cannot guarantee that a size will be available.  Equipment will also be available for sale through Elsmore Swim Shops.

A few more notes about practice schedule -

During the Fall, Winter, and Spring we share the pool with the Richfield HS Swimming Teams.  There will be some practices that we need to either relocate to a different pool or cancel practice.  We will always do our best to relocate, but our backup pools (Phillips & Southwest HS) are not always available in which case we will cancel.

When we do need to cancel practice (generally on a Tuesday or Thursday), we will make sure that the affected groups will have an opportunity to make up that practice.  We will always try to offer the minimum amount of recommended practices for each given week.

Last minute practice cancelations

Sometimes inclement weather will result in a last minute practice cancelation.  In this scenario we will send mass emails and text messages. Please follow the steps below to verify your cell phone number in our system, cell numbers must be verified in order to receive text messages -

How to add your cell phone for text messages in case of last minute practice cancelations:

  1. Sign In to your account.
  2. In the side menu click My Account > My Account
  3. To add an SMS number for one of the athletes in the account, click the Members tab and then click their name; otherwise stay on the current screen.
  4. Fill in the cell number in the SMS field.
  5. Pick the cell Carrier for that phone from the drop down menu.
  6. Click Save in the upper right and it will send that number a verification text.
  7. Check your cell phone for a "Verify your SMS" text from notifications+alias, where alias is your team's alias, and open it. Note that some cell carriers can take awhile to deliver the message.
  8. Tap the link and you should see one of two possible messages.
    • "Success! We have validated your primary SMS." (or "secondary SMS" if that's what you were verifying)
    • "Sorry, your primary SMS has already been validated." Sometimes just opening the text will verify the number, resulting in this message.
In either case the SMS number is verified and ready to receive texts from the team.
  9. If tapping the link doesn't work, note the four digit code number in the text message.
  10. If you get the message "Sorry, the code XXXX did not match any codes," continue.
  11. Back in your team's SwimOffice website, click the Unverified button above the SMS number.
  12. If you got the error in step 10 on your mobile device, click Resend Verification and go back to step 7.
  13. Enter the four digit code from your text message in the Verification Code field and click Verify.
  14. You will see Verified in green above the SMS number. You may need to refresh the screen to see this.
