Riptide Swim Team

Weekly News – October 21, 2019

New Information

Wolf Meet Results: It was another great weekend of racing for Riptide swimmers. We saw a LOT of new best times and a surprising number of new State Championship qualifying times! You may find meet results here.

Meet Deadlines: Please pay careful attention to these upcoming meet entry deadlines. If you have any questions regarding appropriate meets for your swimmer, please contact your lead coach.

Seating for Practice at BWAC: Parents, please do not sit directly at the lobby window looking onto the 8-lane pool to watch practice. It can be very distracting to the kids to have parents so close to the swimmers. The table is fine. But pushing chairs up against the glass is too close. Thanks.

Splash n Crash Night – Mighty Ducks: Our second Splash n Crash night is coming up on November 9th. Our first event was a big success! Splash n Crash Nights are an opportunity for swimmers to blow off steam with games in the pool, and then enjoy some Riptide team fun with movies and a snack! We, as a team, are emphasizing a strong team culture and this is the perfect atmosphere to do this. These times are also a great opportunity for parents to get a little free time to Christmas shop or to enjoy a quiet dinner during this coach supervised activity.

CrossOver Turns Clinic: Check out this outstanding learning opportunity for your swimmer coming up on November 10th!

 Ongoing Updates & Reminders

Private Lessons: If you’re interested in private lessons for your swimmer, please speak to your coach or email Paul Smith.

Billing Contact Info: Questions or concerns? You may reach Cara at billing@riptideswimteam.org or at 952-683-1662.

Chilly Dip Volunteers: Remember that all families with swimmers participating in the Chilly Dip are required to work THREE shifts (one must be a timing shift). The job sign-up is active so please check it out now.

Colorado/Meet Manager: We very much need more parents willing to learn the Colorado & Meet Manager systems. These are critical positions that directly support every home meet we run. Our medal groups (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and our 8 & under group are currently under-represented. These positions are surprisingly easy to learn so please don’t be intimidated by the idea of stepping into these roles! But we do need your support! If you are willing to learn more about these roles, please contact Jennifer Hutchins immediately. Thanks!

Parking Lot Safety: We’ve seen an alarming increase in dangerous driving in the Bluewater parking lot. There are two issues: 1) high speeds and 2) drivers going in the WRONG direction. Please remember the basic idea that traffic flows IN through the farthest turn-in and then flows OUT through the exit nearest Elsmore. As you drive through the lot, the building should be on the PASSENGER side of the car. If you see drivers “doing it wrong” please feel free to politely explain the process. It will require a team effort to curb this current problem.

March Age Group State Championship Hotel Block: For our early planners – we have reserved a block of rooms at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Rochester for Age Group Championships in March! You may book here.

MAAPP Certification: This is a reminder that ALL 17 year-old Riptide athletes MUST complete their MAAPP online training prior to their 18th birthday. This is a now requirement for USA Swimming membership.
