Riptide Swim Team

Weekly News – January 4, 2021

New Information

  • Welcome back everyone! Riptide reopens today running the same schedule we used prior to the closure in November. The coaching staff is excited to begin working with our swimmers. As we return to practice, please keep in mind the following items:
    • Stay home if you are not feeling well. Please err on the side of caution as one bad decision can impact numerous other swimmers and families.
    • Remember that family members sharing the same household are considered “close contact” when it comes to Covid exposure. Therefore, if a member of your family tests positive for Covid, you must quarantine from practice for 14 days. You may not “test out of quarantine”. In the event you must miss practice due to Covid exposure, please notify Alison at [email protected] and a credit will be arranged.
    • Please remind your swimmers to always wear masks at BWAC while not swimming. Send your swimmer with a small plastic baggie in which they may place their mask at the end of their lane. The mask may be taken off just prior to entering the water and must then be placed back on immediately after exiting the water.
    • Please remember to send swimmers with a plastic bag in which to place wet boots/shoes upon entering BWAC.
  • During the recent closure, Riptide was notified by USA Swimming that we have again been awarded Silver Medal Club Excellence status! This is another great honor for our program and represents the fifth consecutive year (2017-2021) we have achieved Silver Medal status! Congratulations to everyone on this achievement.
  • Please see the two notes below from Minnesota Swimming:

MNSI will be hosting virtual Stroke and Turn officials clinic on the following dates:

March 3rd, 2021 - 7:00 to 8:00 PM - Signup to be posted after February clinic

These clinics are a great way to get interested persons from you club an idea of what USA Swimming officiating entails. Please push this information out to your membership - MNSI will need officials to handle needs of upcoming Spring and Summer meets!

Dear Minnesota Swimming Community,

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and is having a great start to 2021! The Minnesota Swimming (MNSI) Nominating Committee is excited to invite all members of the Minnesota Swimming community to apply to serve MNSI as a member of the organization’s Board of Directors or on one of its committees.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a great group of leaders. The MNSI Board of Directors is a 501(c)(3) non-profit board, and its responsibilities include directing the mission, vision, and core values of the organization. Leaders from many different clubs and backgrounds are needed to fulfill these responsibilities. No previous Board of Directors experience is necessary to apply.

Members interested in serving should complete a short interest form by Friday, February 19th, 2021. This deadline has been extended from the original deadline. A link to the interest form is available here.

A member of the Nominating Committee will schedule a brief telephone meeting soon after receipt of each applicant’s interest form to discuss what the applicant will bring to the Board of Directors. In late March, a final slate of candidates for the Board of Directors will be published on the MNSI website. In Spring 2021, the Minnesota Swimming House of Delegates will convene to elect new Board of Director members.

The available positions are listed below. Of note, any position, other than the position of General Chair or Finance Vice Chair, may be held jointly by two members.

• General Chair

• Officials’ Chair

• Senior Vice Chair

• Finance Vice Chair

• Secretary (1 year term due to early departure)

• Safe Sport Chair
