University City Swim Club Youth Levels

Level 1

Level 1 is for swimmers who are comfortable in the water and able to complete 25 yards of freestyle without stopping or holding on to the wall.  In this level, coaching will focus on stroke development, as well as the fundamentals of fitness swimming. The goals of this level are proficiency in freestyle and backstroke, and introduction to breaststroke and butterfly.

 

Objectives

Upon completion of Level 1, the swimmer will be able to:

  • Swim 50 yards of freestyle with appropriate proficiency.

  • Swim 50 yards of backstroke with appropriate proficiency.

  • Swim 50 yards of breaststroke.

  • Swim 25 yards of butterfly.

  • Perform a sitting dive.

  • Demonstrate circle swimming.

  • Follow coaches’ directions (ie, not standing on the bottom of the pool).

 

Level 2

 

Level 2 is perfect for those who have some prior swimming experience and who have met the objectives of Level 1 In this level, we work on refining all strokes and proper breathing techniques. Swimmers will receive further coaching in starts and turns, and be introduced to goal-setting and interval training. The goal of this level is proficiency in all four competitive strokes.

 

Objectives

The swimmer will be able to:

  • Swim 100 yards of freestyle with appropriate proficiency.

  • Swim 100 yards of backstroke with appropriate proficiency.

  • Swim 50 yards of breaststroke with appropriate proficiency.

  • Swim 50 yards of butterfly with appropriate proficiency.

  • Perform a standing dive from the side of the pool.

  • Dive from the starting block.

  • Demonstrate understanding of how a pace clock works.

All strokes must be consistently legal per the rules and regulations of USA Swimming.

Level 3

Level 3 is for swimmers who are proficient in all four competitive strokes. Coaching will focus on improving endurance. The goal of this level will be mastery of all four strokes, as well as starts and turns.

 

Objectives

The swimmer will be able to:

  • Complete a backstroke flip turn.

  • Complete a breaststroke pullout.

  • Complete a 200 Individual Medley with legal turns.

  • Swim 500 yards freestyle.

  • Swim 4 x 50 yards freestyle on a :50 interval.

 

 

Pricing of Youth Program

In the 2019-2020 season, our monthly fee per swimmer was $100/month. We offer a reduced fee of $25/month to anyone who qualifies for USA Swimming's Outreach program (proof of specific income levels or eligibility for Medicaid or SNAP required).  We also offer scholarships for those who do not qualify for Outreach but cannot pay our full fees.  We are proud that we do not turn away any family for lack of ability to pay for our program.

 

University City Swim Club Youth Practice Times and Days 2019-2020

All levels meet on Monday - Thursday at the Natatorium (7420 Shaftesbury) at University City High School. As a UCity Swim Club member, you are welcome to come as often as you like. We value flexibility.

Level 2

6:15 pm - 7:15 pm

Level 3 

6:00 pm - 7:15 pm
