Don Galuzzi

Don Galuzzi

Location: Felix Festa

Groups: Silver, Gold & Gold Elite

Bio: In the 53 years that he has been coaching age group, high school and college swimmers, Don Galluzzi has never felt that he was going to a "job" or "going to work." That has continued to be the case for Coach Don, now with Condors since 2014, as he has returned to his roots in Metro age group swimming from the days when he co-coached the successful Gotham and GAK teams with his brother and fellow Metro Hall of Fame Honoree, Len Galluzzi.

The most satisfying aspect of Don's time with Condors to date has been working with the group of swimmers that started with him in the Silver group (one of the teams he currently co-coaches) in the spring of 2014, as he continued coaching them moving in to the Gold and later Gold Elite groups during the 2015 & 2016 seasons. The 2016-2017 season finds these same swimmers continuing their steady development as members of the Condors Senior groups. They are evidence, in Don's mind, that swimming is a process, and that these swimmers and their families have bought into this approach toward the values found in the sport of competitive swimming. The process continues as those swimmers move on towards high school and college swimming, along with USA Swimming at the Metro, Regional and National levels, as that exposure and success is what a Condors Swimming career embraces.

Peter Sarmiento

Peter Sarmiento

Location: Mark Twain

Groups: Silver, Gold & Gold Elite

Bio: I’ve been a competitive swimmer since the age of 12-17 . I was a swimmer at the Yonkers YMCA , which I also where I started teaching swim lessons, lifeguard classes, and coaching. I began coaching my last year of swimming in 2008 for the Yonkers ymca. I stepped away from coaching till 2017 where I came back to coach at the YMCA. After a year of coaching the Yonkers team I joined Condors in 2018. Shortly after returning to coaching, I was reminded that the reason I coach is for the children. I am happy to say that coach was correct; ever since returning to the sport the children brought a deep passion for the sport of swimming out of me, and they inspire me to be a better coach. My hope is when my work at Condors is done I don’t just develop great swimmers but great men and women.

Yasmin Ruiz

Yasmin Ruiz

Location: Mark Twain

Groups: Stroke Development & Bronze

Bio: Coach Yasmin's journey began with American’s swim teacher, the YMCA, a non profit organization where people are able to attend water safety classes and swim lessons. Starting by integrating herself in their most popular program: Youth-Employment - a program which helps teenagers take courses and life experience to then apply to real life jobs. It was then that she began the process of becoming a lifeguard. Swimming then became a part of her daily routine. Seeing the importance of swimming in daily life, she decided to become an instructor, teaching lessons, basic swimming techniques and building relationships with the children and adults. Yasmin was introduced to competitive swimming with experienced coaches and began to devote my time to learning from them any way I could. Her passion for swimming grew and so did the love for it. Coaching became something much more than an interest so everything that came with competitive swimming was a joy. Coach Yasmin is happy to take coaching to another level at Condors, where she hopes to ignite not only sportsmanship within her younger groups, but also with everyone that she coaches. Fostering a love for the sport and hoping to build each and every swimmer to swim to their best ability with love and discipline is one of Yasmin's primary focuses.
