Camp Read, the beautiful Adarondack camp run by the Greater Hudson Valley Scout Council, is still in need of some key employees in order to run our programs this summer.  We are in need of an Aquatics Director (NCS certification required) (21+ year olds) and Lifeguards (16+ year olds).

We also have the need for other positions that are available as well, for those 18+ especially.  A List of these postings is available at Summer Staff Positions Available (ghvbsa.org)

At this point in time, with the staff we have been able to secure, we are only going to be able to open 1 waterfront of the 3 on site.

While our summer staff generally works 8 weeks, we are asking you today if you would consider working at least 4 weeks.

Please note that for Lifeguards ~ we provide all of the training needed during our staff week of June 25th – July 2nd.  We certify our Lifeguards in First Aid, CPR, and BSA Lifeguard during this time.

In addition to salary, all staff are provided with room and board while in camp.  Staff are welcome to use their free time to earn merit badges, and we can certainly contract around your week that you have already scheduled to be with your troop.

In additional to making friends for life and having tons of fun, there are skills that you will grow while being on staff ~

  • Oral Communication – you will learn to be communicate with people at every level:  campers, fellow staff, camp directors, and even parents!
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving – you will be challenged to think on your feet – from resolving health & safety issues to facilitating a group of campers in creating and putting on a skit.
  • Interpersonal and Leadership Skills – You will model professionalism and compassion by managing your class of campers, while contributing to the growth and development of each individual participant.
  • Collaborative Skills – you will receive practical, real-life training in how to work with a team and help build the culture of your camp community.
  • Creativity – you will develop innovative and fun ways to engage an audience of two to twenty.
  • Independence – you will be responsible for your personal space and personal care.

I do hope that you will join us this summer!  You can apply HERE or go to www.ghvbsa.org/read/staff.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and answering any questions you may have!!

Yours in Scouting,

Sandy Owens |  Administrative Assistant / Camping
