National Team Bios

Nicole Ciavarella

Nicole started swimming competitively at age 7. After qualifying for JO's at age 11, she began to take her swimming seriously and qualified for Speedo Super Sectionals in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. By the time she turned 13 she qualified for Speedo Junior Nationals in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke. Due to Nicole's times in the breaststroke events, she was selected to attend the Zone Select camp in 2011. Nicole also performs on a high level during the varsity season. While swimming for Nyack High School, she became a 2 time County and Section Champion in the 100 yard breaststroke. Nicole also broke the section record in that same event. At states she placed 3rd and 5th during the two consecutive years in which she swam for her varsity team. Nicole is a Scholastic All American and was selected as Rockland County Swimmer of the year twice.

 

Matthew Zugibe

Matthew started swimming competitively at age 11. During his first season he qualified for Silvers and shortly after that he qualified for JOs in multiple events. As Matthew began to train more seriously, he began to qualify for even more competitive meets such as the Eastern Zone Championship and Senior Metropolitan Championship. As a result of Matthew's success in the pool, he was invited to attend the 2012 Eastern Zone Select Camp. He recently qualified for the Speedo Junior National meet in the 100 meter butterfly and 50 meter freestyle. Matthew also swims competitively for North Rockland High School. Matthew is a county champion in the 100 yard freestyle and the 50 yard freestyle. He also represented North Rockland in their 200 Freestyle relay that took first place at sections two years in a row. He qualified for the state meet in 6 individual events and 2 relays. At states, he placed 7th in the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 freestyle during his freshman and sophomore years of high school. He currently holds 7 school records (4 Individual events, 3 Relays). Matthew was also chosen to be 2014 Rockland County Swimmer of the year.
 

 

Christina Paspalas

Christina started swimming competitively at age 7. After qualifying for JO's at age 10, she began to take swimming more seriously. Soon after making JO's she won the high point award for that meet at age 12. By the time Christina was 14 she qualified for Junior Nationals in the 100 backstroke. Since then, Christina has also qualified for the 200 backstroke and has finales 3 times at the Junior National level in the 100 backstroke. Christina also swims for her high school, Northern Valley Demarest, at the varsity level. While swimming for Demarest she set county records in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. At states she placed 3rd freshman year and 2nd sophomore and juniors year in the 100 backstroke. Christina is a Scholastic All American and was selected as Bergen county swimmer of the year her sophomore year as well as Athlete of the Week her junior year.
