GLT Group Training Level

The Great Lakes Tritons Swim Club is divided into 6 Training Levels. This allows swimmers of all ages and abilities to train at a level best suited for their age, emotional preparedness and ability. Our level advancement program along with a great staff of Coaches will provide swimmers in this area with an exciting and instructional environment. We invite you to meet our coaches and see what a family oriented team we have. We encourage Team Spirit in our swimmers, our parents, and our coaches to give everyone the chance to experience Competitive Swimming from all angles. Outside of the commitment our swimmers have to their training, they also have a lot of fun and develop some long lasting friendships.  Below is a brief description of each training level.  For details on Equipment Requirements, please CLICK HERE


This group will learn the fundamentals of Swimming. This group focuses on learning technique for all four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle). There will be emphasis on educating the child and creating a fun experience and atmosphere.

Practice schedule: 3 days a week. Approximately 45 minutes per day.


Emphasis in this group is placed on stroke technique, body position, turn, push-off, and starts. Swimmers in this group are expected to swim in dual meets and encouraged to swim in invitational swim meets.

Practice schedule: 3 days a week. Approximately 1 hour per day.


Swimmers will continue to work on mastering technique of all four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, starts, turns, underwater swimming and finishes) and maximizing stroke efficiency, while learning to race. Swimmers will also learn how to use the pace clock and begin interval training. Athletes in this group also continue to become more fluent in the sport of swimming through meet preparation, participation and beginning goal setting. Swimmers are expected to swim in dual meets and invitationals.

Practice schedule: 4 days a week. Approximately 90 mins each day.

Qualifications: 9/10 JO Qualifying Time -or- 12U State Qualifying Time (depending on age and swimmer)


Swimmers are required to be able to demonstrate a proficiency in all four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle) and be able to complete competitively 100 yards of each stroke as well as a 200 yard Individual Medley. Swimmers should have and aerobic capacity to handle interval training and endurance training.

Practice schedule: 4-5 days a week. At minimum 1.5 hours per day.

Qualifications:  Middle school and high school aged swimmers without JO/State Qualifying times.


Senior Competitive will focus on strengthening the performance skills and stroke technique of the swimmer. Senior Competitive will consist of high school swimmers that have less than three State cuts and age group state level athletes. The Senior Competitive group is expected to attend 4 out of 6 practices a week and attend meets regularly.

Practice schedule: 5-6 days a week. At minimum 1.5-2 hours per day.

Qualifications: 13/14 JO Qualifying Times -or- 12U State Qualifying Times
