Service Hours

 Swim teams depend on service-driven events and group fundraising to help balance pool and staff costs to programs. All local USA Swimming clubs maintain a service requirement, with a financial incentive to support the team.

Group Service commitments for the September-March season

  • Novice Otters
    • 12 Hours for each Novice Otter in the family is required per year for any registered Otter who stays on the team longer than one month. Service hours for the fall-winter season must be completed by March 31
  • River, Sea, Presenior, and Senior Otters
    • 20 hours for the first swimmer, and 10 hours for each additional swimmer in the family is required per year for any registered Otter who stays on the team longer than one month.  Service hours for the fall-winter season must be completed by March 31

Group Service commitments for the April-July season

  • Novice Otters
    • 5 Hours for each Novice Otter in the family is required per year for any registered Otter who stays on the team longer than one month. Service hours for the spring-summer season must be completed by August 15
  • River, Sea, Presenior, and Senior Otters
    • 8 hours for the first swimmer, and 5 hours for each additional swimmer in the family is required per year for any registered Otter who stays on the team longer than one month.  Service hours for the spring-summer season must be completed by August 15.

Hours will be posted in connection with our special events and meets in November, December and May, plus our additional novice meets and dual/quad events. Families will have a deposit held but not withdrawn until the commitment is met. Each hour has a value of $20 for a total of $400 for the season. Summer service hours can also be achieved through volunteering at other YWCA events like the YWCA Women's Tri, or the YWCA Indoor Triathlon Series 

When you sign up for a volunteer job at a meet or event, there are points assigned to each job. For example, if a job is worth 4 points, it is equal to 4 volunteer hours.

The charge for service hours not met will be charged upon the end of the season or the end of the swimmer's participation. Future commitments, rolling through the end of the service period (fall-winter or spring-summer) will be applied to your account, so long as you are registered for them before the swimmer ends their time with the Otters. 

If you do not work a shift you commit to, the hours will not be applied to your account as completed.

Service hours are counted to a family's account at $20 per hour of service. Families may elect to pay a flat fee to cover their service hours before the season begins.

YWCA Indoor Triathlon Series

  • In January, February, and March, the YWCA hosts an indoor Triathlon series to help athletes prepare for Triathlon season. For the Triathlon to run successfully, they need volunteers! When volunteer positions become available, we will link to them here. 
    • Send us your volunteer sign-up confirmation, and after the race we will confirm it against the volunteer check-in list and give you credit.

YWCA Midtown - Resource Hub

  • The rescource hub at our Midtown location is helping hundreds of people each week, and always needs volunteers to help distribute supplies.
