Welcome to the Vicksburg Swim Association

The Vicksburg Swim Association was founded in 1972. This team has boasted many state champions and Mississippi Swimming record holders. Parents have supported Mississippi Swimming by serving as a board. The team has recruited members for years by focusing on swimming as a lifetime skill. All team members are reminded that every Olympic swimmer started out just like they are – having fun, getting fit and making friends.

VSA Practice Pod Outline

Killer whales live in cohesive long-term social units called pods.  A pod is a group of individuals that travel together the majority of the time.  The size of a pod usually varies from 5 to about 30 individuals.  Within each pod, there are Bronze (BRZ), Silver (SLV), and Gold (GLD) subgroups.

DEVELOPMENTAL POD (DEV) – All swimmers 8 and under.  This is our introductory group level.  Swimmers are taught the four competitive strokes – Backstroke, Freestyle, Breaststroke, and Butterfly.

AGE GROUP POD (AG) – All swimmers age 9 to 13.  These swimmers have a grasp on the four basic strokes, and the strokes are fine-tuned for competition. We also introduce starts and turns. Swimmers are introduced to endurance and interval training.

SENIOR POD (SEN) – All swimmers age 13 and over.   This is our top level group with  swimmers who have made a commitment to the sport of swimming and training.  Training and refinements of technique are targeted for top state-level and national-level swimming.

During the Fall, Winter and Spring and depending on the POD, The Killer Whales practice at Wyatt’s on Monday and Wednesday from 4PM – 5:30PM and at Purks YMCA on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 4:00PM to 8:30PM.

During the Summer and depending on the POD, they practice from Monday through Friday 6:00AM to 8:45AM and Tuesday and Thursday 5:00PM to 6:00PM.
